EMac Screening

EMac Screening Hi, I’m Emma and I’ve been a teacher for 15+ years. I’m now also a qualified Irlens and Dyslexia screener. I have a passion for inclusive education.

Screening for Irlens or Dyslexia really can help your children or yourself.

Dyslexia can have a real impact on a child’s self-esteem. Tasks that others may take for granted — reading, spelling, writing, or following instructions — can require a huge amount of effort and persistence for a dyslexic learner. Over time, this can make children feel frustrated, tired, or less confident in their abilities.
The good news is that with the right support, children with dyslexia can thrive.
🧠 Brain training activities can help strengthen the skills dyslexic learners rely on. Just like any muscle, the brain develops with practice — and targeted exercises can improve memory, processing speed, attention, and language skills.
💛 What helps most:
• Patience and encouragement
• Celebrating effort, not just results
• Multi-sensory learning approaches
• Short, consistent practice sessions
• Building on strengths and interests
When we understand their challenges and support their growth, we help children build confidence, resilience, and a belief in themselves that lasts far beyond the classroom.
Every child learns differently — and that difference can become their strength with the right guidance.

When a child struggles with both Irlen and Dyslexia, the overlay stops the distortion but creativity is needed to help with the dyslexia. Memory strengthening and supporting confidence so they don’t give up! Together we will get there 💪🏻

📚 Is your child struggling with spelling, reading, or saying that the words seem to move on the page?
This could be more than just a phase. For some children, these challenges may be linked to visual processing difficulties such as Irlen Syndrome.
If this sounds familiar, early support can make a big difference in confidence, comfort, and learning.

A box of chocolates and a simple “thank you for understanding my child” at parents’ evening 🤍 We don’t do it for the praise, but it’s always appreciated. The challenging ones? They’re the ones you remember 😁

We advocate fiercely for our children.
We push for answers. We ask questions. We seek support. We want the very best for them.
But when was the last time we did the same for ourselves?
Irlen Syndrome doesn’t just affect children.
Many adults struggle every single day with:
• Headaches
• Light sensitivity
• Fatigue while reading
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feeling overwhelmed in bright or busy environments
And most have simply learned to “push through it.”
They tell themselves:
“It’s just the way I am.”
“I’ve always struggled with reading.”
“I just get tired faster than others.”
But what if it doesn’t have to be that way?
Getting screened for Irlen as an adult can be life-changing.
A simple change — like specialized colored overlays or precision tinted lenses — can:
✨ Reduce visual strain
✨ Improve clarity
✨ Increase focus
✨ Make everyday tasks feel easier
We don’t have to accept discomfort as “normal” just because we’ve adapted to it.
We don’t have to settle for “this is just how it’s always been.”
Advocating for ourselves is just as important as advocating for our children.
You deserve comfort.
You deserve clarity.
You deserve support too. 💙
If you’ve ever wondered whether Irlen could be affecting you, consider getting screened.
A small step could make a huge difference.
