Have you heard Greater Manchester's 10 Top Tips for Talking with Babies?
• Babies start to learn even before they are born and can hear your heartbeat. From 23 weeks, they can hear sounds outside your body.
• Babies hearing your voice when you talk, read or sing them recognise you when they're born. This builds a bond which makes them feel safe and secure.
• Babies also love hearing your favourite music before they're born! Play them your go to tracks.
• When you're talking to your baby bump, gently touch or rub your tummy - this helps yourself and the baby relax.
• If you've spent plenty of time talking and singing to your bump, your baby will find your voice calming as soon as they're born, because they'll recognise it!
• Talk to your baby in your home language. This is the language you know best and are most confident using!
• Babies love it when you're close to them and they can see your face!
• Talk gently to your baby and wait for them to respond. Sometimes they might make little sounds or movements. Copy them, wait for them to respond and see what they do.
• Babies love to hear your voice! Look them in the eye and talk to them all the time. They start to learn rules about language as soon as they're born.
• Although they might not use words, babies are still trying to communicate with you so try and work out what they're trying to tell you!

Good hygiene is always important when expressing milk 🙌🏽
Remember to wash your hands before expressing and handling breastmilk, and always use a sterile container with a lid for storage.

Babies can’t tell us how they’re feeling but there are some clues you can look out for. Your baby might have a serious infection if they:
🔍 are difficult to wake
🔍 appear floppy
🔍 are irritable and won’t settle
🔍 have a mottled or blotchy appearance
🔍 have difficulty breathing or are breathing unusually
🔍 have a rash or sores/blisters
🔍 have a temperature above 38°C or below 36°C
🔍 have a high-pitched or abnormal cry
🔍 had fewer than 2-3 wet nappies in the last 24 hours
Trust your instincts – if you feel something isn’t right with your baby, contact a healthcare professional such as your health visitor or GP. If you are very worried, visit an emergency department. Please share this post far and wide so people know the signs and symptoms.
