Not even 2 years into his training yet and look at this transformation from the boy Anes El-Mejri 👏🔥

Anas puts serious hours in, grafts his ass off, is always willing to help out and is turning into a problem on the mat, both in the gym and in competition 😮‍💨

Progress doesn’t happen overnight!

Whilst ‘newbie gains’ are definitely a thing in martial arts, the real improvement happens over years, not days or weeks.

We aim to get our guys as good as possible, as quickly as possible, but as with most things in life, good things come to those who wait.

There is no secret bullet. Sure athleticism helps speed things along, but grit, resilience and staying power can only be taught over time.

Stay on the mat for years. You’re only gonna get older anyway, you might as well get your blackbelt in the process!

It’s not about who’s best, it’s about who’s left.

Interclubs are the best way to test yourself before committing to a full contact amateur fight 👌

All interclub bouts are controlled intensity, with no winners or losers. It’s a sparring match against somebody you don’t know, at a venue that you aren’t familiar with. You get a feel of MMA competition, the nerves, the feeling of all eyes on you etc, and you can then decide if you want to take things further in the future 🔥

This is always one of the main concerns I hear from nervous beginners, they worry about slowing other people in the class down or looking silly at their first few sessions.

The truth is, everyone on the mat remembers that feeling themselves. Everyone felt something similar when they first started.

The experienced guys on the mat are happy for you. They want you to stick with it and succeed. And honestly, they are way too busy with and focused on their own training to be spending time watching and judging you!
