Hi, I'm Hannah - a fully qualified English teacher and GCSE examiner. I'm passionate about helping students finally find confidence and joy in English. If your child is planning to resit GCSE English Language this November, I have a small number of daytime 1:1 tuition spaces available.

As a qualified English teacher and GCSE examiner, I can help students to:

✨ identify the areas they need to improve
✨ build confidence with the exam questions
✨ develop stronger exam technique
✨ practise and polish their responses
✨ work towards the grade they’re aiming for

It's not one of the most commonly taught GCSE texts anymore, but it's still brilliant for exploring friendship, loneliness, dreams, prejudice and responsibility.

What sets a Grade 8/9 essay apart? It's not as simple as memorising more quotes.

I've been helping students build conceptual arguments for Macbeth by connecting themes instead of thinking of them as separate:

👑 Ambition corrupts kingship
⚔️ The supernatural fuels violence
💪 Guilt grows from the abuse of power

When students think about cause and effect between themes, their essays become much more thoughtful and convincing.

A little availability / end of year update from me! 😊

I've had lots of enquiries recently for after-school Year 10/11 tuition, which is lovely - thank you!

Unfortunately, my regular after-school slots are currently full, so I now have a waitlist for any new enquiries. If you'd like to join it, just drop me a message.

I hate not being able to help everyone who gets in touch, which is one of the reasons I started running my half-term GCSE booster sessions this year. They were so popular that I'm hoping to run them again from October, and I'll be contacting everyone on my waitlist once dates are released.

I do still have some daytime availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Daytime spaces are currently available for:

👑 Best of luck to all my Y11s sitting their first English Literature GCSE today! 👻

Be “brave”, don’t let a “heat-oppressed brain” take over, and remember to “screw your courage to the sticking place” when planning your answers.

Carefully “forged” points will bring clarity, while zooming in on key words can bring “a bright clear jet of light” to your explanation.

Read the question carefully - twice - and take your time, so that “no fog, no mist” clouds your thinking.

And when it’s all over, you’ll be “as light as a feather”. No more daggers, witches, or ghosts to worry about…with Macbeth’s “fruitless crown” finally off your head.

A couple of hours well spent with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (not literally, thankfully!) 👻

“The Phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached.”

This is arguably the most physically intimidating of the ghosts, but on a deeper level it also seems to symbolise death itself. Scrooge’s overwhelming fear highlights his desperation to avoid the bleak future looming over him.

A particularly powerful extract when exploring how fear ultimately drives Scrooge towards redemption.

Could this be a good extract for this year’s GCSE question? 👀

Less than two weeks to go until the first GCSE Literature exam ⏰

I’ve been focusing a lot on introductions this week. It’s something many students aren’t quite sure how to approach, but a strong introduction can quietly shape the whole essay.

A simple structure we’ve been using:

🔴 What’s the idea? → Dickens presents the idea that…
🟢 How is it shown? → Initially… however…
🔵 Why does the writer do this? → Perhaps Dickens…
