Teacher Tiff - Primary Tutoring & Parent Mentoring Tutoring for 4-11 year olds, in person in Bury St Edmunds - English, Maths, Phonics. facebook.com/groups/tiffsedhelp I am a primary school teacher of 20+ years.

I also help parents of 3-11s to support their children as they prepare to start school and then right through their primary years. If you'd like help and ideas on how to best support your child through their first few years of learning, then this is the place! Alongside my face-to-face private tutoring in Bury St Edmunds, I also run an online business as the 'Teacher-on-Tap'! I am a very experienc

ed educator who loves nothing more than to talk teaching and how to help children learn. Please do come and ask questions as often as you like for I would just love to help, in any way I can. I offer 2 things:

Private consultations with parents to individually guide them, in in how to help their children thrive at school and reach their academic potential. By finding out what the struggles and gaps are, I suggest what extra targeted support they may need and how to do this. Through my membership I help home educating families teach the trickier concepts in reading, writing and maths, with demonstrations, and suggest next steps to cover in their children's learning journey. The private group provides a friendly and supportive community, in which to help and encourage each other, sharing the children's learning and celebrating it together. This page will also be filled with tips on how to make learning fun, active and irresistible, with lots of activities and resources. Term starts back today for me! 😊

I thought I was almost completely full for the autumn term, but due to a change in circumstances I now have one more space available than expected, alongside the couple of spaces I already had.

So if you’ve been thinking about tutoring for your child, do get in touch and we can have a chat about whether I have a group that would be the right fit for them.

And below is my most recent review, added to over 60 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews now. I’m incredibly grateful to the families who recommend me and keep my little tutoring room so busy! ❤️

This amazed me.
In July this 5 year old came for some handwriting sessions. You may remember my post about how we had pillow fights and crawling races and for quite a few sessions, no writing. We just worked on his core strength and gross motor development.

At the start I assessed where he was at - he picked out letters and tried to write them. See below...

He had the letters to copy if wanted but couldn't hold a pencil correctly, often using a whole hand grip or even two hands for stability and was still ambidextrous. He had no idea how to make his hand move in the right direction, let alone form letters correctly.

After about 7 sessions, he had a good right handed pincer grip and was forming most letters correctly from memory. We took a break, then had a few more sessions at the end of the holiday.

In his last session I asked him to write a sentence and gave him lines with no instruction other than reading out the sounds and letter names for a sentence. No reminders or requests to use the line. He did it perfectly, I couldn't believe it. I also had him write out the alphabet, he only struggled with Z and rewtote it a few times, determined to get it right. Incredible the difference made in just 9 lessons.

I don't often offer 1:1 but his needs warranted it in the short term.

If you're interested in my tutoring sessions I have a couple of spaces left for this term.

You might know me mainly for the tutoring I do, but there’s actually another whole side to Teacher Tiff that I don’t talk about nearly as much on this page! ❤️

Every weekday after school, I tutor children in small groups of no more than four, helping with everything from phonics and early maths through to Year 6 English and maths.

But the other half of my work is with parents.

I’m a Parent Educational Mentor, and I run the group Going to School, Learning at Home Parent Community with Teacher Tiff, where I help parents navigate all the things that come with having a child at primary school. Starting school, choosing schools, friendships, worries about progress, SEND, talking to teachers, knowing when something needs addressing and sometimes simply working out, “Is this something I actually need to worry about?”

I also run regular free webinars for parents, and one of the most popular ones I bring back every year is:

How on earth do we choose a school?

Because choosing your child's first school can feel HUGE.

You can look at Ofsted. You can ask other parents. You can read the website. You can go on three school tours and hear three headteachers tell you three slightly different versions of why their school is wonderful...

…and still come home thinking:

“But how do I actually know which one is right for MY child?”

That's where I can help.

Before becoming a tutor and Parent Educational Mentor, I spent 25 years working in primary schools, including as a Deputy Head and EYFS and KS1 Lead. I've been on the school side of those visits as well as the parent side, and I know an awful lot about what goes on behind the scenes in primary schools.

So in this webinar, I don't just tell you what questions to ask.

I'll help you understand what you're actually looking for.

What matters. What perhaps matters rather less than you think. What I notice when I walk into a school. What different answers from schools can tell you. And, most importantly, how to stop looking for the mythical “best school” and start thinking about the school that might be the best fit for your particular child.

My hope is that you come to the webinar feeling slightly overwhelmed by the whole school-choice business...

…and leave thinking:

“Right. I know what I'm looking for now. I can do this.”

❤️

It's completely FREE.

📅 Friday 11th September
⏰ 8.30pm
💻 Live on Zoom

I'll put the webinar link in the comments below.

And if you have a child at primary school, or one heading there in the next few years, do come and join Going to School, Learning at Home Parent Community with Teacher Tiff too. That's where I share much more of the parent-mentoring side of what I do, including advice, discussions and more free webinars throughout the year as well as running a popular low-cost membership too.

So yes, I tutor children. But quite a lot of the time, I help their parents too. ❤️

Oh my goodness! I can't believe it!
60 Google reviews. Yes, 60! And every single one, five stars.
60 - I still can't quite believe it...

I keep going back to read them. It's not the star rating, it's the words, the truly lovely words.

These are the repeating themes:

How much their children love every lesson, so much so that a lot of them have gone on to book two subjects a week.

How much their confidence has grown, and how quickly.

How much they love learning with others.

How I get to know each child's personality and tailor to how they learn best.

How I give clear, detailed feedback to parents.

Every review is personal. So many talk about their own child's needs and the changes since we started working together.

I'm so very touched.

If you fancy a lovely read, just Google Teacher Tiff Bury St Edmunds to find my Google listing and the 60 reviews (couldn't resist mentioning that number again! 😜) I'm properly proud of every single one.

Oh and I very nearly forgot to say, I have only 3 SPACES LEFT (and one might have gone) for September (3 out of 59 - all in groups of 4), so do get in touch if you're interested and we'll discuss your child's needs. WhatsApp me on 07913 291226
