🥚 How do you like your eggs? 🥚

We like them in an incubator so we can see them hatch! 🐣

The lovely Elly and Mark at Marston Farm delivered us some freshly laid eggs from their hens 🐓 as we learned we have to wait a while TWO WEEKS for them to hatch, we have enjoyed lots of Egg-citing activities. A very popular one was a very messy one… shaving foam and paint eggs with lots of tools to flip, mash, mark mark, mix and egg-splore!

Hands on fun is the best fun! 🙌
We had this alongside lots of egg songs, stories and other activities that we can’t wait to share with you… finding out about lots of animals that lay eggs in our animal topic 🪺

🙌Physical Skill Development: Squeezing, molding, and pouring materials like playdough or water strengthen small hand muscles, improve dexterity, and refine hand-eye coordination. These skills are vital for tasks like using scissors or writing.
🤨Cognitive Growth & Problem Solving: Messy play encourages children to explore "how" and "why" things happen, fostering scientific thinking and curiosity. They learn to solve problems and understand concepts like cause-and-effect (e.g., mixing colors, making mud).
🧠Sensory Stimulation: Using senses like touch and sight to explore new textures helps brain development. It allows children to feel, hold, and mold objects.
🧑‍🎨Creativity & Imagination: Because there is no "right or wrong" way to play, children are free to experiment, imagine, and create without fear of failure.
🥰Emotional Regulation & Calm: Engaging in sensory activities can be calming and therapeutic, helping children to manage stress, anxiety, and emotions.
💬Social & Language Skills: When done in groups, messy play encourages cooperation, sharing, and turn-taking. Describing textures (e.g., "sticky," "cold," "squishy") boosts vocabulary.

Yesterday, we took our children to Marston Farm to support the children with our animal topic. Trips are the perfect way to bring learning to life and create those amazing memories together.

We had an amazing day in the sunshine ☀️ albeit a little windy 🌬️ to explore all the farm had in store

🐑 we got to see the sheep and their new baby lambs and learn how to look after them
🐣 we learned about chickens and eggs… but not which came first! Stroking a chick and exploring eggs.
🥚 seeing where the eggs in our incubator came from and why the eggs are all so different
🚜 seeing the machinery used on the farm and measuring ourselves against the huge wheels
🌻 planting sunflower seeds and waiting for them to grow
🐾looking for tracks and signs of animal life
🕵️‍♀️ using metal detectors to hunt for and dig up hidden horse shoes
🥪 enjoying a picnic lunch with our friends

Ten Town Stay and Play 🙌

We have been enjoying and fully embracing numbers through the programme ‘Ten Town’ this term, so wanted to share the fun with our parents too.

The day kickstarted with singing and dancing to the ten town theme. This woke us all up and was a lovely way to start our session. This morning was all about showing parents that maths is not just about number… with construction, puzzles, mark making just some of the fun to be had. We talked about the secret maths that can be unlocked in play - noticing numbers, measuring, shapes, patterns, filling and emptying, counting… so many opportunities!

It was so lovely to have such a full and busy room… with so many parents coming to join in and play with their little ones. Thank you so much if you managed to come. Watch out for more stay and play sessions through the year.

What stay and play sessions would you like to see? Let us know in the comments. If you joined us, we would love to hear your thoughts on the session too please 🙏
