🍎✨ National Thank a Teacher Day ✨🍎

Today we’re celebrating and saying a huge thank you to every member of staff across the Federation of Bursledon Schools.

From teachers, teaching assistants, SEND support staff, office staff, our pastoral team, catering team, site team and SLT – every adult in our school community plays an important role in inspiring our children to learn, grow and thrive.

We are incredibly proud of our dedicated team and so grateful for the care, commitment and hard work they show every single day. 💙

Juniors Sports Day – Tomorrow! 🏃‍♂️☀️

The gates will open at the usual time and you are welcome to wait in the designated area for the children before they come out to take part.

Children can come into school in their sports kit and should wear something that shows their team colour. If you do not have anything in your team colour, normal PE kit is fine. Please remember sun cream.

The children will come out onto the field at 9:00am and take part in a whole school warm up at their first station. Once this has been completed, we will begin the 12 stations where they will score points for their teams.

Below are the stations that each class will be starting on:
KILN – 1 – Basketball shooting
BRICK – 2 – Golf putt
CLAY – 3 – Hockey dribble
ANCHOR – 4 – Foam javelin
DECK – 5 – Football dribble
BOW – 6 – Tennis volley
MILLSTONE – 7 – Rugby try score
PROPELLER – 8 – Boccia throw
BLADE – 9 – Running relay
HAMBLE – 10 – Netball chest pass
ITCHEN – 11 – Cricket wicket target throw
TEST – 12 – Speed bounce

We will then meet by the running track to complete the Stamp Sprints. All children have competed in heats during lessons and we now have the two fastest boys and two fastest girls in each class. These races are likely to start at around 10:45am. Please could we ask all parents/carers to stand on the climbing wall side of the track so the children can sit opposite and cheer on their classmates.

Refreshments will be available for £1 - cash only. These will be on sale from 10:45–11:15am. If you are not attending, your child may bring money to school and give it to their teacher first thing in the morning.

When the event has finished, children will return to class and the Year 5/6 gates will be reopened for you to leave. Children can stay in their PE kits for the rest of the day. The overall winner will be announced during celebration worship on Friday.

📸 A polite reminder — whilst we are happy for photos and videos to be taken, please try to focus only on your own child. Images or videos that include other children should not be shared on social media.

🕊️🔥 Remembering Guru Arjan Dev Ji – A Legacy of Courage and Compassion 🔥🕊️

Today our Sikh friends honour the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Guru of Sikhism and the first Sikh martyr. His life and sacrifice are remembered as a powerful example of faith, peace, and resilience.

In 1606, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was arrested and tortured under the orders of Emperor Jahangir for refusing to abandon his teachings and beliefs. Despite enduring unimaginable pain, he remained calm and devoted, uttering only words of acceptance:

“Tera kiya meetha laage” – Sweet is Thy Will, O Lord.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji:

Compiled the Adi Granth, the Sikh holy scripture 📜
Oversaw the construction of the Golden Temple in Amritsar 🛕
Taught values of equality, service, and devotion to God
Inspired generations to stand up for truth and justice, even in the face of oppression

🌞 Each year, Sikhs commemorate his sacrifice by offering Shabeel — sweetened water served freely to all, symbolising compassion and selfless service. Children learn that even in difficult times, we can choose kindness, courage, and faith.

May Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s legacy continue to inspire us to live with dignity, serve others, and stand up for what is right.

On Friday, Year 3 had some very special visitors! 🦅

A huge thank you to Falconry UK for providing our children with such a fun, interactive experience. The children loved learning all about these amazing birds and getting up close to see them in action!

✨ Year 2 Step Back in Time! 🔥

Our Year 2 children had an unforgettable day on Friday, bringing history to life during their Great Fire of London workshop with the fantastic Mr Dilly!

Through drama, songs, storytelling and hands-on activities, the children explored the events of 1666, discovering how the fire started, how it spread and how London was rebuilt. The excitement, curiosity and brilliant acting from the children made it a truly memorable experience for all.

A huge thank you to Mr Dilly for inspiring our young historians and helping us travel back in time! 🏠🔥📜

🌿 Spruce Up Your Scooter (or Bike)! 🚲✨

We’re excited to be taking part in the Clean Air Challenge again this year to help raise awareness of air pollution 🌍

Last year’s entries were amazing (so amazing that we won the whole challenge! 🏆), so we can’t wait to see how creative everyone gets this year!

📅 Children should scoot or cycle to school on 26th June, where they’ll take part in a fun parade, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes up for grabs.

Take a look at some of last year’s incredible designs in the photos for inspiration – we’d love to see as many entries as possible!
