A fantastic result from my GCSE student today. She has worked so hard in every single lesson since I started teaching her in Year 6. This is thoroughly deserved and I am so happy for and proud of her.

I love receiving messages like this when my learners are on holiday. It does make me proud that this lovely lady has had the confidence to use the French that she has worked so hard on. Bravo!

I am loving Morroco. Lots of French people here and it's easier to communicate in French than English as it is widely spoken here. I enjoyed my first haggle in French in the souk in Marrakech! It's a great place to come if you're learning French but if you come in the summer be prepared for the heat ☀️

I am so proud of my Year 11 student for receiving this award. I have tutored her French since she was in Year 6 and I have been blown away by her work ethic and determination. She thoroughly deserves this and all the amazing things that are coming her way.

Passer is a really useful verb but it has different meanings so it's quite tricky. Hopefully this helps!

I thought I would be able to get by in Portugal knowing Spanish. I can understand a lot of the written language but the sound has really surprised me. It shares its roots with Spanish, but its rhythm sounds more like Russian and I can hardly understand any spoken Portuguese!
If you're interested:
Both languages are "stress-timed," meaning speakers emphasize specific stressed syllables while rapidly swallowing or reducing the unaccented ones. When vowels like "e" or "o" are left unstressed in Portuguese, they are muffled or turned into a "schwa" sound (similar to Russian).
Well, it's interesting to me!

A lovely surprise arrived today from a student who has just finished her GCSEs. I've taught her since Year 6 but weirdly never actually met her in person. I'm going to miss her smiley face on my screen!
Merci beaucoup, you have been an absolute pleasure.

On our trip to the Alps I saw this sign and similar ones on the motorway. Would you have known what it meant? Clue in the comments
