Here are some of our top tips for learning German 🇩🇪📚
🎧 Listen to German podcasts
Try Coffee Break German if you’re a beginner, or Easy German Podcast for more natural, everyday conversations.
📺 Watch German TV & YouTube
Try Nicos Weg by Deutsche Welle. It follows a story while teaching useful German vocabulary and grammar along the way. For something more challenging, watch a German series like Dark with German subtitles.
📰 Read something in German
Nachrichtenleicht is a great place to start, with news written in simpler German. As you progress, try Deutsche Welle, Tagesschau or Der Spiegel.
🎵 Add German music to your playlists
Follow along with the lyrics and see how many words and phrases you can pick up.
🗣️ Practise with real people
Apps like Tandem and HelloTalk can help you find German speakers for language exchanges and put what you’ve learnt into practice.
🔁 Be consistent
You don’t need to study for hours every day. Even 15–20 minutes of German daily. This could be a podcast on your commute, a few flashcards or a short video. This can make a big difference over time!
💬 Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
You will make mistakes when learning a new language and that’s a good thing! The more you speak, write and put yourself out there, the more you’ll learn. Don’t let the fear of getting something wrong stop you from practising.
You can adapt these to every language! Which of these tips will you be trying first? 🇩🇪
