Superstars Childminding I provide high quality child care in a safe and homely environment for children from birth to 14 yea I have a lovable one year old pet shih tzu called Alfie.

About Me
My name is Karen Brierley and I live in Burnley with my husband Steven and my two children, Laura and Joseph. This breed of dog does not shed hair and is okay for children who suffer from allergies or asthma. I have always enjoyed working with children and whilst at college I helped at Mencap, an organisation which helps people with learning disabilities. This involved interacting and sup

porting children in a summer club which included sports events, trips out, etc. I also helped at a local nursery school which cemented the love I had for working with children. From this experience I embarked on the road to become a primary school teacher. I worked as a teacher for twenty years, many of these within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Through my experiences I have developed a good knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the different and wonderful ways in which children learn. Throughout my years teaching I have completed many training courses including observing, planning and assessing young children, EYFS tracking, behaviour management, story sacks, Autism, dyslexia, outdoor play, indoor play, den making, safeguarding and first aid. I have a sound knowledge of SEN principles and procedures and have always provided an environment where all children were given opportunities to access the early years curriculum. During my years studying to be a teacher I assisted at a Brownie unit and enjoyed leading the many craft activities. I also attended brownie camps, regional brownie events and obtained my brownie leader award. I am a friendly and caring person, who is passionate about working with children. After juggling child care and full time work myself I know how important it is to find good quality child care for children and want to offer this service to other parents.

Sing simple songs and nursery rhymes. Rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for our language. Both rhyme and rhythm help children to hear the sounds and syllables in words, which helps them to learn to read!
