Would you be voting for Trump or Putin? The connections are already surfacing.

In Greek tragedy the horrific scenes always took place behind the central door with the characters who directed the battles and murders appearing on the stage. Here I present the horrors on the stage (television) whilst the actors responsible now hide behind the door. The chorus in the tragedies could address the audience and those on stage.

Trump’s trade policies would hurt the world 23/10/2024

As a person who questions whether tariffs help or hinder, I found this article interesting. There is always a risk that protecting a home industry can mean that advances in technology are missed, and then home goods become less and less attractive, more inefficient, and lack innovation. However, I was also interested in the idea that to promote home production and boost the economy, a massive intake in the labour force is required if the current level of employment is high, and that increase can only come from massive immigration. This is when we see arguments for bringing in more cheap labour.

Trump’s trade policies would hurt the world His new suggestions would have a far bigger impact than the relatively modest ‘starter protectionism’ of his first term

Moldova referendum: Provision results show thin margin for EU membership 21/10/2024

Defeat for Russia after an attempt to 'buy an election' but the result was too close for comfort. The interference by another nation is disturbing and I wish there had been a closer investigation into the finances used for the Brexit campaign. The attempt to financially influence the outcome of the election in the US shows no nation is immune from what is really bribery in one form or another.
For the record millions of euros were intercepted from passengers returning to Moldovia from Russia who were unable to account for the origin of suitcases full of money.

Moldova referendum: Provision results show thin margin for EU membership Moldovans are facing a choice between pushing on with EU membership or keeping close ties to Russia.

Why are we building homes when so many are standing empty? 20/10/2024

As the article points out, here is a partial solution to the problems relating to the shortage of homes. There are more obvious actions to be taken, at the moment many authorities charge council tax when the home has been empty for a year. If this were to double if left empty for a further year, then double again for succeeding years there would be no incentive to keep the homes unoccupied. The current laws exist to protect those who are holding on to property as an investment and that view needs to be challenged.

Why are we building homes when so many are standing empty? Bringing empty homes back into use can be tricky, but campaigners say a lot more could be done to help.

Ukraine war latest: 11,000 North Korean troops will be 'ready to fight' in Ukraine by Nov. 1, Budanov says 20/10/2024

Now that more reports of the assistance North Korea is giving Russia are emerging, not just arms and ammunition but troops too, there has to be a big question mark in the minds of US voters.

Donald Trump boasts he could 'end the war'. How? He has proved himself to be a friend of both Russia and North Korea, or so he claimed, and does this mean he will side with them so that Ukraine falls to Russia? NATO countries can no longer rely on a treaty that has been weakened by both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Would Kamala Harris do anything to restore confidence? I don't know. It seems that Europe now has to unite and stop Russia from trying to restore the 'empire' of the old Soviet Union.

Keir Starmer rebukes Louise Haigh over P&O Ferries ‘boycott’ call 12/10/2024

The only views you are allowed to express are those of Mr Starmer if you are a Labour MP. Rather like Republicans are only allowed to agree with Donald Trump.

I think we should have minimum standards for seamen and women who work on any ship that docks at a UK port. These should include a requirement to pay a minimum wage, rights to employment, and decent safety standards, as we would demand from a ship registered in the UK.

An individual must have the right to boycott a business without fear of a threat from a leader. As for the Tory comment on their ability to talk to business, those who made massive profits from the Covid crisis by dealing with a government that was desperate and full of panic shows just how skilled they were!!

Keir Starmer rebukes Louise Haigh over P&O Ferries ‘boycott’ call The PM tells the BBC the transport secretary's criticism of a ferry company is "not the view of government".

Dozens of UK-linked firms suspected of busting Russian oil sanctions 11/10/2024

This is a typical example of the crazy way the United Kingdom thinks. We believe that Ukraine has a right to exist as a country and yet we are not prepared to enforce sanctions correctly or to give Ukraine the military support needed to win a war.
Let us commit to helping Ukraine 100% and not try to do deals through the back door just because it benefits a company.

Dozens of UK-linked firms suspected of busting Russian oil sanctions The government is investigating 37 companies - but has yet to hand out any fines, the BBC discovers.
