Today we have been encouraging the preschool children to make their own choices. We encouraged the children to choose what they would like to do at the creative table and they decided on painting. They then moved onto what colours to choose. They decided on 4 bright colours because they "could paint a rainbow." We chose to use cotton pads to paint with as the children thought they could "spread" the paint with these.

We used the cotton pads to spread the paint on our paper and mix the colours together. The children used phrases such as "look what colour I've made" and "I'm going to mix it round". We really enjoyed creating our paintings with different materials and we are already thinking what we can use next!

This week in preschool we have been looking at a child's specific focus which is hairdressing. We have planned several activities around the child's focus including drawing themselves and looking at the colour of their hair and what features the child has got. They seemed to have really enjoying the activities this week!

Book of the week. Children have been voting for the book of the week, this week is rainbow fish and going on a bear hunt. We have also introduced a sequencing of the story, this is to encourage children to sequence the story and promotes team working together and building relationships with their peers.

In our preschool room we have introduced our new self regulation arch, this area is a calming and quiet space for children to access when they need to go to a space to regulate their emotions. Inside are some lovely books that are about feelings and emotions, there are some stress balls that children can squeeze again these help when children are feeling angry, anxious or upset. We have an emotions board and every morning children find their pictures and put their picture on how they are feeling and why they are feeling this way. Children can express their feelings and when they like. Children's wellbeing is important at Briercliffe and giving them a safe space they can go to is lovely to see. PSED is a prime area of learning and talking about how children feel is important in their development.

This morning toddlers have been looking at different insects lady birds and spiders following the children's interest of mini beast. Throughout this week we will be looking at numbers, shapes and colours to further enhance the children's understanding and building up on the recognition of numbers, shapes and colours as we have picked up on this through doing current focus weeks and children's trackers. The children have loved creating their own spiders which we have been encouraging counting. Some children have made paper plate lady birds which we have been encouraging colour recognition and counting for how many spots.
