Our Health & Social Care and Early Years learners welcomed guest speakers from Deaf Village for an inspiring and eye-opening session.

The talk gave students invaluable insight into deaf awareness, communication and the lived experience of the deaf community. It is exactly the kind of real-world learning that helps prepare our students for meaningful careers in care and education.

We are proud to give our students these opportunities to learn directly from industry experts and real-life experiences.

A huge thank you to the team at Deaf Village for such a valuable and memorable session.

It was great to welcome Danny Campbell, Permavent's Area Sales Manager for the North West and North Wales, to the college this morning!

Permavent are providing Themis with roofing membrane to support students studying the brand-new Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard in Roofing course, which is starting in January.

On supporting Burnley College and Themis, Danny said:

“We are always interested in supporting future generations. These students are the future of the industry. Without these learners coming through and learning the trade through such an enthusiastic college, the industry can’t move forward.

“We want to make sure that they have got the best products and information to ensure that they can go as far as possible.”

The support from Permavent is greatly appreciated, and their banner will proudly sit on the wall of our dedicated workshop.

The Apprenticeship will be new for 2027 and Burnley College will be one of the only providers of its kind in Lancashire.

If you’re a local business and would like to help the next generation of roofers, then please email: [email protected]

Thanks also to Sue Wharton for her continued support!

Our Public Services students got a real insight into frontline policing this week, visiting Police's Burnley Custody Centre.

Led by Sergeant Foster, students followed the full custody journey:

From booking, searching, welfare and rights, through to interviews, evidence gathering and stepping inside the cells themselves 👮

Experiences like this build real understanding of frontline careers, as their learning goes far beyond the classroom.
