I just came across this really useful image for those with older children to decode some of the sinister emojis we need to be aware of. This is taken from www.forworkingparents.com which is a good site for parents and organisations in decoding the online world.
LCC would like us to share the latest Health Protection Bulletin. Be sure to check out the information which covers Flu vaccines for children and some adults as well as other things for older children, an item on Shingles, on Children starting college and what vaccinations they should have had by now etc. https://sway.cloud.microsoft/HMweIb5vqd8tewyS?ref=Link

Just a reminder to Parents who are applying for funding to use from September, the code you are provided with (in order for the childcare provider to offer you that funding) MUST be issued before the end of this month. DEADLINE 31/8/25.
If you already have funding in place, make sure you remember to renew your codes every 3 months. It's very easy in our busy lives to miss the emails reminding us.
For anyone unsure what the funding covers exactly or how it works, here is a helpful guide. Feel free to share.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued advice on coping with hot weather. Rather than just provide you with a link, I have edited the document to images which makes it easier to glance over.

For anybody who read about the choking risks on my post yesterday, I just thought I would share this item with you. It's a Choke Tester sold on Amazon (I will add the link) and has a little tube opening for you to test whether an item/toy etc will fit inside it, ie a choke risk or is too big to get stuck in the throat, ie safe for them to play with. I've had one for years and find it very helpful. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BabyDan-Choke-Tester-Baby-Product/dp/B003O3UI6G/ref=pd_lutyp_rtpb_d_sccl_1_3/261-2717134-9612832?pd_rd_w=PWCOq&content-id=amzn1.sym.2e6a41d0-32e6-4fec-ad50-bf28c25872ff&pf_rd_p=2e6a41d0-32e6-4fec-ad50-bf28c25872ff&pf_rd_r=VHZ6CWF6643KVPG9QPHS&pd_rd_wg=8hyen&pd_rd_r=5bcecd14-5fef-4080-be74-1ae3c6a894c1&pd_rd_i=B003O3UI6G&psc=1

💚"I always thought choking would have been more obvious. But the silence and the panic in his eyes will stay with me forever."💚

Children can choke at any time. It doesn't matter what they're eating or how many times they've had it before. We know that sounds scary but there are things you can do to reduce the risk:
Remember the Ss
#1 STAY with your child when they're eating.
Choking is silent so you need to watch your child and react quickly.
#2 SIT STILL to eat.
It can feel like a battle but it's the safest way to eat.
#3 SIZE and SHAPE matter.
Young children have narrow airways so certain foods can be more of a risk as they will completely block the airway. Avoid round hard foods and think long and thin.
What are the safe eating rules in your house?
Download a copy of the above choking fact sheet (or screenshot). Lots of information on there about which foods in particular to cut, remove skins, pips etc. Some First Aid information on there too which is important to know.

💚Child Safety in the Community:
Poisons & Swallowing💚
Do you know suspected poisoning is one of the most common reasons for young children to be taken to A&E?
It only takes a moment for little hands to get into something they shouldn't. This happens every day. 💊Medicines are the frequent culprits!
Take a moment to look at the Poisoning Fact Sheet below as provided by Child Accident Prevention Trust. Sharing information like this is the best way to help children lead active, healthy lives, safe from serious injury.
You can download their Parent Pack too, with lots of bite-sized safety tips to keep children safe: https://capt.org.uk/resources/parents-pack/

We learnt the hard way with our own Son. As Parents you feel so guilty but it happens. He wasn't a baby or toddler either, maybe around age 11. It was an accident with a full freshly boiled kettle in a caravan one snowy Christmas. I don't think any of us will ever forget that drive to hospital, trying to find our way off a farm that had turned white, in the evening with no street lights. We made it onto the roads where cars were crawling due to a blizzard. Even his siblings (1 older, 1 much younger) who always had things to say were completely silent. The results were a holiday that ended and a stay in the burns unit at Manchester Children's Hospital.
It is worth a look through the bite sized tips the Child Accident Prevention Trust provide, even if you already know it all. It's good to remind yourself of what can happen.

What might just sting an adult could cause a devastating burn injury for a child.
👉 They’re small – so a burn will cover a larger proportion of their body than an adults
👉 Their skin is up to 15 times thinner than an adults – so burns are more severe
👉 Pulling away from heat isn’t automatic – Adults will pull away in a second. But young children haven’t learnt that yet, so contact can last much longer
👉 They’re curious – they love to reach and grab, whether it’s a toy or a hot cuppa
That’s why taking simple steps to prevent burns is so important when you have little ones at home. Download our safe from burns fact sheet for top tips on making your home safer: https://capt.org.uk/resources/safe-from-burns-fact-sheet/
