Community cohesion – working in Lancashire towns with a sizable minority ethnic community, particularly those from a South Asian background, promoting work with the indigenous population. Active citizenship – promoting volunteerism within communities so young people take ownership of the project and therefore ensures sustainability of the project for the future. Education – offer different educati
onal approaches specifically curriculum and issue based programmes. Good Practice – championing ideas, setting standards for others to follow and proactively make a difference. Empowerment – empowering young people into positive activities whilst giving them a voice to express themselves, raising their self-confidence and believing in them. Work to be carried-out using different artistic perspectives particularly but not exclusively South Asian disciplines; based in Burnley, but working throughout Northern England. Supporting local artists and encouraging upcoming talents to take ownership of the project as volunteers. Increase awareness and accessibility of performing and visual arts. Targeting of young Asian females – confronting the cultural taboo of working with this group not targeted by the community previously giving them an opportunity to voice their opinions and express their views with the same freedom that their male counterparts enjoy. Providing a safe environment and place for targeted, marginalised and hard-to-reach young people for dialogue and conflict resolution. Set-up of a theatre agency as a corporate endeavour to achieve long-term sustainability.
