Our Tots children were eager to 'have a go' at painting in a different way, by decorating a string of balloons. This activity is actually great for pre-writing skills as children develop the muscles in their arms, wrists and shoulders by reaching up and stretching out to make contact with the balloons.
It was also an opportunity for children to paint while moving and standing, demonstrating that in early years we don't need to be sat at a desk for learning to take place and for inquiring minds to develop.

Following a recent farm visit at nursery the children were showing an interest in all things farm animals.

Practitioners incorporated lots of opportunities for children to learn more about farm animals, through books, creating pictures, singing songs, they even 'had a go' at milking their own cow!

The children were quite fascinated by this concept in learning where milk comes from and showed a great interest in taking part. There were lots of giggles along the way once the milk started squirting them.

Effective learning must be meaningful to a child, so that they are able to use what they have learned and apply it in new situations. These abilities and attitudes of strong learners will support them to learn well and make good progress in all the Areas of Learning and Development.

It started with a trip to the library where the children chose a book, entitled 'Shark in the Park'.

This sparked an interest in Timothy Pope and his telescope and the adventures of what he sees. A fantastically simple book full of rhyme and silliness to spark children's interest and develop their communication and language skills.

The children then went on to create their own simple telescopes and practitioners promoted further conversation to talk about what the children could see, they
"look at the sky, look at the ground, look left and right and all around and this is what they see......."

"Shark in the Park" is a beloved children's book by Nick Sharratt, celebrating 20 years of its release. The story follows Timothy Pope, who is testing his new telescope at the park to see if there is a shark. The book is known for its rhyming text and ingenious die-cut pages, making it an interactive and engaging read for young children. It has been praised for its humor and the clever use of die-cut components, ensuring that children will have a jolly good time with the book. Nick Sharratt, the author and illustrator, has won numerous awards for his picture books, including the Sheffield Children's Book Award and the 2001 Children's Book Award.

Who we are (personal), how we get along with others (social) and how we feel (emotional) are foundations that form the bedrock of our lives.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development is fundamental to all other aspects of lifelong development and learning, and is key to children’s wellbeing and resilience. Children’s self-image, their emotional understanding and the quality of their relationships affect their self-confidence, their potential to experience joy, to be curious, to wonder, and to
face problems, and their ability to think and learn.

A holistic, relational approach creates an environment that enables trusting relationships, so that children can do things independently and with others, forming friendships.

Our little people love exploring the outdoors and their natural world around them.

We are lucky at Playdor to have local access to a great park which can be explored throughout the seasons.
We are also close to our local library where we can visit and build on developing children's love of story telling and all things literacy.
