World Book Day is our opportunity to change attitudes to reading – to give our students a seat at the table and kick-start lifelong reading for pleasure habits. This matters immensely to our students ..... even if they don’t recognise it for themselves yet.
At Sir John Thursby we are:
Creating a real buzz about reading by holding special World Book Day assemblies for all year groups
Sharing what we are reading with our students and encouraging reading-related conversation through our What I Am Reading posters
Running a reading related Scavenger Hunt to earn Golden Tickets.
A Book Give-Away Extravaganza allowing students to swap their Golden Tickets for a new book of their choice.
Mystery Readers dropping in, via invitation to lessons
A staff book swap
Unveiling our new non-fiction books, giving space and time in library lessons for our students to read and share.
Handing out World Book Day vouchers and sharing information about where our students can use the voucher to get a free book.
