Over the past 3 weeks, our Mental Health Champions have helped create calm jars for year 1, 2 and 3. Calm jars can be used at difficult moments throughout the school day and can help our children manage uncomfortable emotions. The children simply shake the calm jar and watch the glitter settle down. Our Mental Health Champions planned the sessions, demonstrated leadership skills and delivered high quality learning for each class. Well done!

On Tuesday, our Choir Church group had the wonderful opportunity to visit Blackburn Cathedral to take part in the Evensong service. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved and a real celebration of music, teamwork, and faith.
Upon arrival, the children were warmly welcomed into the cathedral by Bishop Philip, who spoke to them about the significance of Evensong and the rich musical tradition of the cathedral. This set the tone for an inspiring afternoon. The group then joined Tom and John, the cathedral’s choir masters, for a singing practice. The children listened attentively, worked hard, and enjoyed learning from such experienced musicians.
Before the service, the children embarked on an exciting quest around the cathedral, searching for various artefacts and learning more about the building’s history and symbolism. This activity helped them appreciate the cathedral’s beauty and heritage in a hands-on, engaging way. After their exploration, the group enjoyed some food together — a welcome chance to rest, chat, and prepare for the performance ahead. The sense of community and
excitement was clear to see.
During the Evensong service, the children sang beautifully. Their voices filled the cathedral with confidence and
clarity, and their behaviour throughout the entire visit was exceptional. We were extremely proud of them all; they
represented our school with maturity, respect, and enthusiasm.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Meena for her dedication and hard work in running our Choir Church. Her commitment has made the group a huge success, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she does to support our children and enrich their musical experiences. On Friday, to celebrate World Book Day, Year 2 visited Burnley Youth Theatre to see a book brought to life on stage. They watched Ruby's Worry, a children's picture book that helps young readers understand and share their hidden worries through the story of Ruby and her growing worry. The children had a wonderful time and really enjoyed seeing the story come alive!

Four Year 6 girls had an inspiring day at Turf Moor as they took part in the Women & Girls in STEM event. Throughout the day, they explored the wide range of opportunities available in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, hearing first-hand from guest speakers representing Safran and Gener8.
The group enjoyed a behind‑the‑scenes tour of Turf Moor, discovering the many STEM‑related roles involved in running a football stadium. A highlight was taking a seat in the Press Conference room’s “hot seat,” giving them a taste of life behind the microphone.
After a well‑earned lunch, the girls took part in a series of hands‑on activities. One favourite was working with a device called Indi, where they used coloured tiles to code a route and guide Indi successfully along a path—an engaging introduction to problem‑solving and programming.
The afternoon concluded with a second guest speaker panel featuring women from the RAF and a specialist who uses STEM to support medical systems. Their stories offered powerful examples of the many paths STEM careers can take.
The girls represented their class and school brilliantly and returned full of enthusiasm. It was a memorable day that broadened their horizons and strengthened their confidence in exploring STEM in the future.

During this half term, as part of our Key Stage One worship, we have been exploring our Christian value of courage. Alongside this, we have been enjoying a series of interactive stories about kindness, shared by Bishop Philip and the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education.
The children have been thoroughly engaged and have particularly enjoyed adding a kite to our ribbon display after each story, helping us to celebrate and reflect on the values we have been learning about together.
