Today I have been busy in the garden. I’ve had a little tidy and reset all ready for the summer term ☀️

Safe sleep

There has been a lot of noise in the early years world this week about no longer using pushchairs for sleeping children unless we are out and about.

This is actually a change I made a little while ago.

As a setting who focuses on 0-3 year olds sleep is an essential part of our daily routine. More than a routine, it becomes an expected and welcomed daily ritual which children look forward to after a busy morning of play!

I have worked hard to create a set up for sleep which is safe and calm. Mostly the children all sleep together after lunch. We tidy up before lunch and get our beds ready. We have a combination of travel cots and sleep mats depending on the individual needs of the children in that day.

Having separate beds means each child has their own set of bedding which is washed at the end of the week.

We put on our ‘sleep sheep’ on the tonnies box which plays relaxing sleep music and we also turn on our night sky projector.

It’s not just about safe sleep here at Kelly’s house, it’s about building in a calm and relaxing part of our day where children can rest comfortably.

The lullaby trust is a great source of information about safer sleep guidance.

One of my little ones had a dentist appointment today so we spent the afternoon reading books and talking about how we can keep our teeth healthy and what happens at the dentist to help them feel confident and prepared 🦷🪥

Once a month we visit Berrow school for a childminder drop in group led by the preschool manager. Such a lovely opportunity to network and share good practice and ideas.

This month we played with a very fun, messy play tray based on The Gruffalo.
