📢 SRT SPECIALISTS TALKS – MARTYN’S LAW | TALK 13
Communication under pressure
In an emergency, danger itself isn’t always what creates panic.
Uncertainty does.
When people don’t know what’s happening, what they should do, where they should go, or who they should listen to, confusion can spread incredibly quickly.
That’s why good communication is such an important part of preparedness.
Clear information.
Calm delivery.
The right message, to the right people, at the right time.
And communication isn’t only about radios. It’s about having a plan, making sure staff understand it, knowing who takes responsibility and having another way to communicate if your usual system fails.
A well-prepared team doesn’t need lots of information under pressure. They need the right information.
💬 Discussion: If something serious happened at your workplace or venue tomorrow, how would your team share information — and would everyone know who to listen to?
Prepare today. Protect people. Save lives.
Confidence doesn’t always come before the course — sometimes it is built during it. 💪
Our learners’ average confidence grew from 2.6/5 to a fantastic 5/5, leaving them ready to begin their journey in the security industry.

🛡️ SRT SPECIALISTS TALKS | MARTYN’S LAW – TALK 12
What is invacuation?
It’s a word many people have never heard before — but it could form an important part of an emergency response.
Most of us understand evacuation: get people out of the building.
Invacuation is different. Instead of leaving, people are moved into a safer part of the building when going outside may expose them to greater danger.
That sounds simple, but it raises some important questions.
Would your staff know where the safer area is?
Would they know when to evacuate and when to invacuate?
Who makes that decision?
And how would that information reach everyone quickly?
Emergency planning isn’t only about having a procedure written down. Your team needs to understand it, practise it and be confident enough to act when it matters.
💬 Had you heard of invacuation before today?
Drop a YES or NO in the comments — we’re interested to see how widely the term is understood.
Prepared teams. Safer outcomes. Stronger together.

🚪 SRT Specialists Talks | Martyn’s Law – Talk 11
Lockdown isn’t just for schools.
When people hear the word lockdown, they often think of education. But the reality is that many workplaces could one day face a situation where restricting movement and protecting people is the safest option.
Hotels.
Hospitals.
Shopping centres.
Office buildings.
Entertainment venues.
The question isn’t “Will it ever happen here?”
The question is:
If it did… would your team know exactly what to do?
A lockdown procedure is more than a document on a shelf. It requires planning, communication, leadership and regular practice so that staff can act quickly and confidently when every second counts.
Martyn’s Law is about creating prepared organisations—not fearful ones.
💬 Discussion:
Does your workplace have a lockdown procedure? When was it last reviewed or exercised?
Prepared people make better decisions. Better decisions protect lives.
Midweek reminder: confidence is built through the right training, the right support, and the right team.
Our July SIA Licence Course feedback is in, and we are proud to share what our learners had to say.
From 7 learner responses:
✅ 100% would recommend the course
✅ 100% felt supported
✅ 100% felt comfortable asking questions
✅ 100% said the course was suitable for people new to security
✅ Confidence grew from 2.6/5 before the course to 5/5 after the course
✅ Trainer feedback: 5/5
This is what Specialist SRT training is about.
Not just getting through a course.
Not just getting a badge.
It is about learning the role properly, understanding responsibility, building confidence, and feeling supported from day one.
One learner said:
“There was no such thing as a stupid question, and nothing was too much trouble.”
That is exactly the environment we want to create — professional, supportive, and welcoming for people starting their journey in security.
We are proud of our July learners and excited to see where their security careers take them next.

SRT Specialists Talks | Martyn’s Law – Talk 10
Can your team work without radios?
It’s an interesting question—and one that every venue, event organiser and security provider should ask themselves.
Radios are an excellent tool. They help teams communicate quickly and coordinate effectively.
But they’re only a tool.
What happens if batteries fail, a network goes down, there’s interference, or a radio is simply lost or damaged?
Would your team still know what to do?
A well-trained team doesn’t rely on equipment alone. They rely on preparation, clear procedures and confidence in one another.
Every member of staff should understand:
✅ Their role and responsibilities.
✅ Who to report to.
✅ Where to go if communications fail.
✅ How to pass critical information without relying solely on technology.
Martyn’s Law is about building resilience. That means preparing for the unexpected—not just hoping your equipment always works.
Technology supports people.
People deliver safety.
Discussion
💬 If every radio on your site stopped working right now, would your team still be able to operate safely and effectively?

SRT Specialists Talks | Martyn’s Law – Talk 9
Your staff are your biggest safety system.
The best CCTV, access control systems and security equipment can all play an important role. But when something unexpected happens, it is people who make the difference.
Technology can support a response.
Trained, confident staff deliver it.
Martyn’s Law reinforces the importance of preparing the people behind the operation—not just investing in the equipment.
A prepared team is one that can:
✅ Stay calm under pressure.
✅ Communicate clearly.
✅ Make confident decisions.
✅ Work together as one team.
Whether you’re a venue manager, steward, security officer, supervisor or member of the hospitality team, everyone has a role to play in protecting people.
The strongest safety culture isn’t built on procedures alone—it’s built on people who know what to do, trust each other and are ready to act when it matters most.
