Small world tuff tray
This morning we have enjoyed exploring a small world tuff tray to encourage sounds in play with the babies such as “brrm” and “beep beep” and animal sounds. The babies enjoyed moving the cars round the roads to see the animals and making the different sounds that each animal makes.

Duck Pond tuff tray
The children have had lots of fun exploring the water with the ducks. The children enjoyed the water fountain watching the water spray into the air. We also explored textures of the plants and used language such as “splash splash” as the babies splashed their hands into the water.

We have also enjoyed a picnic tea outside in the sunshine. The babies all enjoyed eating their tea and watching the different things around them such as the aeroplanes and the birds on the bird feeder.

Small world activity 🚗🚂
This morning we have played with the cars following the road and looking at the different signs. The children did very well copying words such as “stop” and “go”. We also looked at the colours of the traffic lights and named each of them. In our tray we have familiar photos of locations around Burley in Wharfedale and we talked about each of the, such as the train station and where we might go on a train.

Mini beast tuff tray 🕷️🐞🐛
This morning, outside, the children went on a mini-beast hunt in the tuff tray. They found various mini-beasts and used tweezers to carefully pick them up. We talked about the different types of mini-beasts we could find, their colours, and whether they were big or small.

Ladybird painting 🐞
This afternoon the children have enjoyed making their very own ladybird inspired by next months book of the month ‘what the ladybird heard at the seaside’. The children enjoyed using red paint and paintbrush to paint their paper plate red just like a ladybird, then they used a glue stick and glue to stick on the spots. Together we counted how many spots we put on. After this the children stuck on the head and antennae.

Mark making with diverse materials🫟
Today we used range of different tools to paint on bubble wrap, we listened to hear what tools might make the bubbles “pop” as well as mixing the colours together to see what would be made, we also enjoyed the sensory experience exploring it using our hands !!

Playdough making!
I set up a playdough making table including flour, salt, oil, food colouring, cream of tartar, a mixing bowl and spoon alongside the playdough recipe. We enjoyed looking at all the ingredients and the recipe before we started to add the ingredients to the bowl. We used the cup to add flour to the bowl and then passed it around to our friends to each take a turn. After we had added all of the ingredients we then took it in turns to mix it all together. Once the playdough was ready we really enjoyed using the rolling pins and cutters to make our own models and shapes.

All about me ! Literacy activity🖊️
Today, Green room have been brushing up on their writing skills! I set up on the middle table and provided the children with some green card and some felt tips. Using a laminated piece of paper with their name on it, the children had a go at writing their own name. Once they had done that, the children started to draw things around their name that made them ‘them’. The children drew all sorts of things from their favourite foods to drawing members of their family. It was really fun and everyone absolutely loved it. Great job, Green room!

Cutting patterns✂️
This afternoon, we have been practicing our cutting skills! On the table were lots of different patterns on coloured card: Squiggly lines, straight lines, loop the loops, zig zags etc. The children tried their very best to neatly cut along the pink line.

Today’s activities❤️

Outdoor play🌤️ - This morning during outdoor play the children have had lots of fun exploring water play and sand play in the garden. They did lots of splashing in the water with watering cans, boats and paintbrush that the children used to mark make on the fence with. They also enjoyed riding their bikes and climbing over the soft play.

Let’s go to the beach 🏖️- this morning the children enjoyed a beach tuff tray, they used spades to fill the buckets up and make sand castles. The children enjoyed squashing their sand castles and saying “more” each time they squashed their sand castles. The children enjoyed saving the animals out of the sea by pulling them out of the slime. We encourage lots of expression such as “oh dear” and “all gone”.

Vegetable Patch🥕 - This afternoon, the children thoroughly enjoyed role-playing as gardeners. They emptied and filled plant pots, used gardening tools to release vegetables from the soil, and watered them with watering cans to help them grow. We talked about why it's important to eat vegetables, as they help us grow big and strong and keep us super healthy. They were also encouraged to use single words such as carrots, cabbage, potatoe, tractor, peppers etc.

Icy painting🧊 - This afternoon, the children enjoyed painting with ice on paper in the tuff tray. We discussed the cold sensation and watched as the ice melted, creating water and marks on the paper. We also talked about the different colours of the ice and the patterns we were making.

Blue Room💙🩵

Emotions😞☺️ This morning we continued exploring thoughts and feelings through a fun and engaging playdough activity. 😊 The children were encouraged to talk about the different emotions they might experience and discuss what can make them feel happy, sad, excited, worried, or surprised. This supported their understanding of recognising and expressing their own thoughts and feelings, while also developing empathy for others.

Using playdough, the children created different facial expressions to represent a range of emotions, with emotion picture cards available to help guide and inspire their creations. It was wonderful to hear the children's conversations as they shared their ideas and experiences with one another. To extend this activity, we touched on the topic of genders, we asked the children which of the faces was a girl and which they thought was a boy!

Mark making/colour recognition 💙💜 This morning the children enjoyed a colourful, hands on activity focusing on colour recognition and mark making. 🎨🔨

We covered paint with cling film and provided the children with hammers to safely mix, splatter, and spread the paint across the table, creating a fun, mess free sensory experience. The children had lots of fun exploring the activity, enthusiastically tapping and banging the hammers to see how the colours moved and changed.

As they explored, the children were encouraged to name the colours they could see and experiment with mixing them together to create new colours. This helped to develop their colour recognition, communication skills, and early understanding of colour mixing, while also supporting their mark making skills and hand eye coordination.

Outdoor play🌸🌿 The children also had a wonderful time exploring our outdoor environment this morning! 🌿☀️They enjoyed helping to care for our outdoor plants by watering them with the hose, developing an understanding of looking after the world around them. The children also had lots of fun practising their balance and coordination on the balancing beam before getting creative with some colourful chalk mark making.

Today’s activities❤️

Humpty Dumpty Tuff Tray👑 - This morning, the children have had fun exploring a Humpty Dumpty tuff tray with playdough acting as the broken pieces of Humpty Dumpty. The children loved emptying and filling using the scoops and small beakers with red (colour of the week) shredded paper. There was also a jigsaw piece of Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall that the children had to place and put together again. Together we sang the nursery rhyme. Amd some of the children enjoyed rebuilding the wall when the wall had fallen down. The bricks used had colours that the children enjoyed looking through too.

Emotional faces😁 - This morning we have been looking at ourselves in the mirror and comparing between happy and sad faces. We have also made puzzles and once made we said if the face was happy or sad. The children used the colour monsters and emotion spoons to match to the different emotions they could see. We also talked about what makes us happy and sad with some of the children labelling mummy and daddy make them happy and also the park makes them happy and one child telling us that being tired made them sad.

Rescue the farm animals🫏 - This afternoon the children have enjoyed helping to rescue farm animals that have been stuck in oobleck mud, their task was to use the hammers around the animals to help release them slightly and set them free. The children also enjoyed manoeuvring farm vehicles around the tray such as tractors and diggers seeing what marks they leave behind in the sand. There was also wood in their with patterns on that the children’s could relocate in the sand to.

National Marine Week🌊 - This afternoon, the children have explored the marine waters with blue shredded paper and different sea creatures underneath the paper that the children had to find name and recognise in celebration of national marine week. This helped encourage usage of single words.
