Yesterday we watched our big friends at their school sports day.
We had a base in the shade with snacks, toys, games and drawing and the the children took turns to go and watch the events. They had a lovely time 😍

Not all activities are messy ones-
Two chunky bracelets+ a ball + a tuff tray = a great game of air hockey!

It might be incredibly simple but it also has many benefits. It works on-
* both fine and gross motor skills
* hand eye coordination
* reflexes and focus
* encourages social skills such as turn taking.
And (most importantly!) it’s really fun 🥰

Today we did a scooping and pouring game- where we had to scoop up the bees and fly them through the tube to the flower....

Today we did a scooping and pouring game- where we had to scoop up the bees and fly them through the tube to the flower.
Scooping and pouring activities are great at strengthening the hand and finger muscles and improving hand/eye coordination- both of which are vital for things like writing and using scissors.
Plus it’s messy and fun! We all worked together to then sweep up the mess- (life skills and gross motor skills 😉 )

Drawing in different positions is massively beneficial to children. Not only is it fun but it also
* Improves both fine and gross motor skills
* Can improve hand eye coordination
* Improve shoulder and elbow stability and core strength
* Improves bilateral coordination and spatial awareness- including improving proprioception and crossing the midline.
* plus it can encourage even the more reluctant artists to get involved and draw

Poor Barry the baby bird must have fallen from his nest over the weekend, our very own Stacey has been hand feeding him the last few days. The children have enjoyed observing him, asking thousands of questions and decorating their own bird watching telescopes. 🐦
Our butterflies have also begun to hatch which has really added to the excitement too! 🦋

It’s almost as if they know we are learning about caterpillars at the moment!

We have had an influx of ermine moth caterpillars take residence amongst the trees and bushes in our front garden.
Whilst moths might not be as pretty as butterflies, some can be rather beautiful still- these night-time butterflies’ also do an important job in pollination as well as provide a food source for birds and other creatures.

We shall keep an eye on these caterpillars over the next few weeks as they pupate before moving on as moths. 🐛

What a hot and sunny half term week it has been! We have been joined by some of our schoolies this week- it’s always lovely watching how much the younger children look up to the older ones, and how kind and caring the older ones are to the younger ones.

We have made the most of this weather- Sprinklers, water fights, ice lollies, and water games have been the theme of the week. We have also watched how some of our caterpillars have turned into a chrysalis- next step: butterflies 🦋
