St Petroc's School Nursery

St Petroc's School Nursery Our Nursery & Preschool starts at 3 months & takes children right through to when they start school. Free places are available through the 3-4 year old funding.

There are three parts to our Early Years Department:

Little Turtles - 0 – 2 years

Sea Lions - 2 – 3 years

Dolphins - 3 – 4 years

Many of the children will move from Dolphins to Reception at either Independent and State primary schools. The Early Years provision is available from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday, 49 weeks a year. The Little Turtles occupy a room in the main building

, which have recently been re-furbished. They have their own designated outdoor spaces which are used regularly. The Dolphins and Sea Lions are resident in our eco-friendly new building which is warm, light and spacious with free flowing access to outside play areas. We aim to be as flexible as possible in terms of sessions and timings. Please do come and visit and meet our Early Years team. The festive season is here, and the magic is all around. Twinkling lights, cosy stories, and lots of little moments to enjoy with your children.

At St Petroc’s Nursery, we love seeing children’s excitement for this special time of year. Remember, the best gifts aren’t always toys — it’s time, laughter, and love that make memories last. 💛

During the autumn season 🍂🍁 children love using natural items like leaves, pinecones, stones and shells in our play and learning. The children enjoy exploring them, talking about what they find and using them in their games.

Using natural materials helps little ones:
🍂 Connect with nature even when indoors
📚 Expand their vocabulary as they describe textures, colours, and shapes
✨ Boost creativity through imaginative play
🧸 Develop sensory and fine motor skills

Nature is all around us, and at St. Petroc’s, we make sure children experience it every day 🌸

🌍 Happy World Kindness Day! 💛

At St Petroc’s we talk about kindness every day: helping a friend pick up their toys, sharing a favourite crayon, offering a hug when someone is sad, or simply saying “thank you.” Those small moments add up and make our nursery a kinder, happier place.

Today, 11 November, we pause together to reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts past and present.

Lest we forget.

Play really is at the heart of everything we do here at St Petroc’s. 🧸🪁

It’s the way our children learn about the world, about others, and about themselves. Through play, they problem-solve, take turns, ask questions, make mistakes and try again. Some days that means messy sensory play, other days it’s a new activity outdoors.

We love how we are able to work with others to provide support for families. We have had a couple of “swaps” now with the lovely Chelly Sturgess and her foodbank. Helping each other with items we both need and of course the beautiful Sue Jarvis at the foodbank, our trustee and dear friend. We help each other out with referrals . Bude Area Toy Library have helped us with stair gates and are a fantastic resource in Bude. St Petroc's School Nursery have kindly been a drop off point for us since day one . The wonderful Morrisons Community Champion Bude has been so helpful over our first 6 months letting us fundraise and keep a trolley in store for collections. Bude primary Academy and The Kitchen Front helped us with fundraising events , as have Bude Social Club and Bude Methodist Church. The wonderful members of Freedom Church Bude also helped us get up and running and purchase essential items. Co-op have now given us the opportunity to fundraise with them for a year with their Community Fund. Plus, we’ve met wonderful health visitors and midwives from across north Devon and Cornwall and lovely people from the Twins Trust.

Of course our community and friends across the country have been a huge support too.

Team work makes the dream work !!!

Thank you all so much 💕
