Westlands Nursery and Preschool are looking for a maternity Cover Position to be filled. The position is between 9 months to a year.
Starting in May/June 2026
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday - negotiable
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and energetic Level 3 Room Leader to join our team on a maternity cover basis. As a Room Leader, you will be the heart of your classroom, responsible for creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where every child can flourish. You will lead a small team of practitioners, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership: Lead and manage the daily running of the room, mentoring and supporting staff to deliver exceptional early years practice.
Curriculum Planning: Plan and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities that foster curiosity and meet the developmental needs of all children.
Observations & Assessment: Oversee the observation and assessment cycle, ensuring individual learning journeys are accurately recorded and celebrated.
Parent Partnerships: Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback on their child’s progress.
Safeguarding: Act as a role model for safeguarding, ensuring all health and safety policies and legislative requirements are strictly followed.
Requirements
Qualification: A full and relevant Level 3 (or above) Early Years qualification is essential.
Experience: Previous experience in an Early Years setting, ideally in a leadership or senior practitioner role.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of the EYFS framework, Ofsted standards, and safeguarding procedures.
Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, with a calm and patient approach in busy environments.
