What a day!

What an amazing day raising money for Young People Cornwall!

Young People Cornwall is a fantastic charity on a mission to support the needs of young people across Cornwall, helping them discover their true potential and make a positive impact in their communities.

Our students were incredible throughout the day, especially in the heat! Their enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork were inspiring from start to finish. Days like today remind us what an amazing place Cornwall is to live, grow up, and enjoy.

A truly wonderful day for a truly wonderful cause.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Tomorrow is the Budehaven sponsored walk, raising money for Young People Cornwall. It would be greatly appreciated if you could remind your students of the following:

Students are walking in their school PE kit
Students need to register in their form rooms at 8:45 for a safety briefing and instructions for the day.

IMPORTANT:
Please bring packed lunches unless you have ordered one as part our free school meals.
Please bring sun hats and suncream.
Please bring an adequately sized water refillable water bottle.
If desired, please bring some cash if you wish to purchase discounted ice cream from Gerry’s ice cream at Widemouth Bay.

Please keep pushing to get that sponsor money in, it's hugely appreciated.

Our Year 9 students recently took part in a special competition to design paintings for the wards at Stratton Hospital, after being invited by the League of Friends to help brighten the hospital environment.

The winning students worked with Mrs Jenner to bring their designs to life before the League of Friends selected their favourite pieces for display. Inspired by our beautiful local beaches, the paintings aim to spark happy memories for patients, many of whom are living with dementia.

A huge thank you to Chair Shirley and Secretary Chris from the League of Friends, who visited to meet our talented students, present prizes, and thank them for their fantastic work.

On Thursday, Mrs Jenner took our A Level Art students to Kilkhampton Park to help complete a fantastic community mural in collaboration with Kilkhampton School.

The talented Year 6 pupils had already created artwork during workshops with Mrs Jenner earlier this year, and our students were proud to add the finishing touches. It was a brilliant opportunity to gain experience of large-scale community mural painting while creating something special for the local community.

🌟 A Fantastic Two Days with Our New Year 7s! 🌟
Over the last two days, we have had the pleasure of welcoming our new Year 6 pupils to our school, and what a wonderful couple of days it has been!
We have been incredibly impressed by the positive attitude, enthusiasm and engagement shown by all of the students. They embraced every opportunity, approached new experiences with confidence, and demonstrated excellent manners throughout.
Their politeness, kindness and willingness to get involved have been a real credit to them, and it has been fantastic to see so many new friendships already beginning to form.
We would like to thank all of our Year 6 pupils for making the transition days such a success. We are really looking forward to welcoming you officially to our school in September and can't wait to see all that you will achieve as part of our school community.
In the meantime, we wish all of our Year 6s a brilliant end to the school year and a fantastic summer break.

With the whole school sponsored walk only a week away it's a good time to remind students that they will need to wear sturdy trainers or walking boots on the day. If the weather is sunny we strongly advise wearing a hat and plenty of sun cream. During this time of the year the sun is particularly strong and skin can burn withing 20 minutes. It's always better to be safe rather than sorry.

Finally, 'Hydration'. On a walk of this distance it's really important to stay hydrated, students must have a full water bottle at the start of the walk. There will be opportunities along the route to refill water bottles.

Last week, a group of our Year 7 students had the exciting opportunity to visit Exeter University and take part in the Rising Mathematicians Festival.
Throughout the day, students explored a range of fascinating mathematical challenges and puzzles, developing their problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. Activities included strategy games such as Nim and Domineering, where students had to think carefully several moves ahead, as well as some impressive mathematical magic that demonstrated just how surprising and engaging maths can be.
As part of their visit, students also enjoyed a tour of the university campus, gaining an insight into university life and the exciting opportunities that higher education can offer.
It was a fantastic day full of challenge, discovery and fun, and our students represented the school brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, curiosity and engagement throughout the visit.

Well done to our Year 10 GCSE Geographers for their fantastic fieldwork in the sunshine in Bude!

As part of their preparation for Paper 3, they investigated inequalities across the town and evaluated the effectiveness of Bude's sea defences.

We'd love to hear about your findings! What surprised you most? Which investigation did you enjoy more, and what evidence helped you reach your conclusions?
