Library With Blaze

This morning we took a trip to the library! We spoke about why it’s important to be quiet in this environment and how to make sure we are respecting other people around us. The children helped themselves to books they liked the look of. Some looked at their books independently and others chose to have one of the team read to them. We practised our phonics on some cvc words and also enjoyed some group story sessions! Well done everyone!

Tea tasting! ☕️🫖🌱
This morning the Blazes had the opportunity to try some different herbal/fruit teas! We started by discussing what tea is and how we make it, then the children learned about what each different tea was and chose which one they wanted to try! Most of the children were drawn to the strawberry and mango tea as they were familiar with the fruits and liked the smell of it! Many of the children also really enjoyed the peppermint tea and we discussed that we have mint plants growing in our garden. We also learned that lemon and ginger tea is often a tea people have when they are feeling unwell as it can helped with a blocked nose and sore throat! The children really enjoyed this activity and it was fun for them to experience something new! Well done for trying new things Blazes!

The Eclipse☀️🌚🌒
Today, the Stars had the most amazing and exciting circle time as we explored all about today’s big event — the eclipse!🌒✨

We began with a lovely discussion about when and where we might be able to see the eclipse tonight, which immediately sparked lots of curiosity and questions from the children. The Stars were particularly fascinated by the idea of an eclipse and wanted to understand exactly what happens, so we watched an educational video together to help bring the science to life.

The children learnt that a solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth, blocking some or all of the Sun’s light and creating a shadow on Earth. 🌞🌑🌎 They discovered that eclipses only happen when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up in just the right way. We also learnt some fun facts, including that the Moon is constantly moving around the Earth and that eclipses don’t happen every month because the Moon’s orbit is slightly tilted. The children were amazed to learn just how perfectly everything needs to line up for an eclipse to occur!

Of course, we also had an important conversation about eclipse safety. 🌞👀 The Stars learnt that we must never look directly at the Sun, even during an eclipse, as this can seriously damage our eyes. We discussed the importance of using proper, approved eclipse-viewing glasses if we want to safely observe the Sun, and that ordinary sunglasses are not safe enough.

Our conversation then naturally led us onto another exciting space topic — meteor showers! ☄️✨ The children learnt that a meteor shower happens when the Earth passes through a trail of tiny pieces of dust and rock left behind by a comet or asteroid. As these tiny particles enter the Earth’s atmosphere at very high speeds, they heat up and glow, creating the beautiful streaks of light that we call meteors or “shooting stars.” The Stars were fascinated to learn that these “shooting stars” aren’t actually stars at all!

As the children were so engaged and having such a wonderful time discussing space, we came up with the idea of creating our very own live eclipse demonstration so that everyone could fully understand how an eclipse takes place. 🌎🌑☀️

We painted one planet orange to represent the Sun, while another grey/white planet represented the Moon. Holly then used her face to represent the Earth! 🌍 She demonstrated how the Moon moves in front of the Sun, blocking its light and causing a shadow to fall onto the Earth. This helped the children see, in a fun and hands-on way, exactly how an eclipse occurs.

We then explored the different types of solar eclipses. The children learnt that a total solar eclipse happens when the Moon completely covers the Sun from our view, while a partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon only covers part of the Sun. We also discussed an annular eclipse, where the Moon passes in front of the Sun but appears slightly smaller, leaving a bright ring of sunlight visible around it, often called a “ring of fire”! 🔥🌑

Holly demonstrated these different eclipses using the Moon and a light source, showing how changing the Moon’s position and the shadow it creates can result in different parts of the world seeing different types of eclipse. The Stars were absolutely mesmerised and were so shocked to see how something happening millions of miles away could create such a fascinating effect here on Earth!

The children absolutely loved this experience and were full of excitement, questions and wonder throughout. It was wonderful to see their curiosity about the world around them turn into such a fun, meaningful and hands-on learning experience.

We’ve had such an amazing time exploring space, eclipses, meteors and shadows, and we’re all very excited to see what we might be able to spot in the sky tonight! 🌌🌒✨

Counting with kids - Specialist Teacher

Today the star’s really enjoyed their counting kids session, they started off by learning shapes through the song “round and round the garden”, the star’s sat in pairs with their own garden and Teddy bear and had to trace different shapes during each song. After this they did a dance and did a movement a certain amount of times. Then they got didgit out and played a game of bingo Rachel would hold up a number card and whoever had a bear would place the bear on that number, until the whole card was full. Each group should “BINGOOOOO”. They star’s really enjoyed their session

Getting Ready for School

Today the children came in to find the home area transformed into a mini classroom! They have range of different uniform that they are encouraged to put on themselves before starting their classroom role play. They have paper and pencils to practise their writing, stage 1 and 2 phonics books to practise their reading and a ‘teachers desk’ where they can pretend to use a computer and take the register. They also have a unit full of different learning resources and school related books that they can get out and use at the table independently or with a teacher. So far the children have been loving this new area and have really engaged with the learning aspect. We have all had lots of great conversations about how excited we are to go school soon!

School Readiness Meeting with Parents - 30/6/2026

We recently hosted a wonderful School Readiness Workshop for our parents, providing practical tips and valuable insights to help prepare children for their exciting transition to school. The session focused on building confidence, encouraging independence, and supporting early learning through everyday activities at home. It was fantastic to see so many families engaged, asking questions, and sharing ideas. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the workshop such a positive and informative experience!

Care Home!
A small group of children from Stars Room visited Queens Court Care Home this morning. We spent time with some of the residents, sharing smiles, conversations, and wishing them a lovely day. The children had an amazing time singing songs, dancing together, and bringing lots of joy and laughter to everyone around them. It was wonderful to see the special connections being made between the children and residents, and the visit created many happy memories for all involved. The children showed kindness, confidence, and enthusiasm throughout the morning, and we are so proud of them. We are already looking forward to our next visit and spending more quality time together.
