Talk is cheap.
Social media, particularly Facebook, has amplified, twisted and distorted the propensity of many to seek constant approval and gratification.
Everyone is eternally successful, happy and unfailingly positive, while superficial online ass kissing is the new currency.
Looking at a lot of online posts, I can imagine it's easy to believe you're not worthy, or that you're so far behind in life - and your business - you'll never catch up.
But it didn't take me long to realise most people are full of pungent poo.
All is not as it seems. And nowhere does the stench of bu****it permeate the air more than in the carpet cleaning industry...
An inordinate amount of impossibly 'happy' and 'successful' people are spending their entire evenings glugging bottles of Blossom Hill while scrolling their Facebook feeds like attention starved zombies.
Most carpet cleaners talk the talk, but closer scrutiny often reveals they're not actually that busy... or that expensive.
Our advice? Spend less time on Facebook, and more putting things into action.
Put simply, this means getting a grip of your website and writing some quality fu***ng content... And then having the work ethic to actually learn and implement local seo, or at least having the balls to pay someone to do it for you.
All the advice about which pretty pre-spray to use on Mrs Jones' lovely floral sofa isn't going to help much if you're not getting enough phone calls.
Yes - you should do all the training courses you need, and gather enough knowledge to carry out your job with confidence ... But you then need to spend less times on the boards and a lot more grafting and implementing.
Strong Google rankings for all your main services in multiple locations (particularly your high population towns), coupled with high quality informative web pages are how you build a modern carpet cleaning business. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
Be sure to look outside the carpet cleaning industry for much of your inspiration and influences. There's very little fresh thinking in such a closed niche.
Don't copy. Be original.
Decide what you want out of your business and then grow a pair and just do it.
Or ... spend the next few years wondering why business is quiet while posting approval craving FB updates that suggest the complete opposite.
Love, hugs and kisses,
Dave
