Following our post earlier this week, we can now share details of Howard Bullock's funeral arrangements:

The funeral will take place at 1.00pm on Wednesday, 30th September 2026 at the Charter Chapel, Canley Crematorium, Cannon Hill Road, Coventry CV4 7DF.

Following the service there will be a reception at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth, CV8 2LD at 3.00pm where there will be a buffet, as per Howard's wishes. All welcome to attend.

Earlier this week, Old Bromsgrovian Tehzeeb Sharif (Ottilie Hild 2019-2025) visited Mrs Round and Mr Palmer in the Computer Science Department. She is now studying Cyber Security at Royal Holloway and has already completed a placement at Ofcom.

It is with sadness that we report the death of Howard Bullock (Academic Staff 1994-1997) who passed away at Warwick Hospital on Friday, 4th September 2026.

As Head of Modern Languages at Bromsgrove School from 1994 until 1997, Howard inspired his pupils and taught by example - he was an excellent linguist in his own right, providing a model to copy and a standard to aim for.

His colleagues knew him as a great contributor to the life of the Common Room - his leaving tribute in the Bromsgrovian 1997 describes him as having 'a ready wit' and he always brightened up the atmosphere at any social gathering. He left Bromsgrove to take up the post of Head of Modern Languages at Solihull School.

In retirement, Howard continued to follow local and national politics very closely. He joined the Spiritualist Church, and he often went to local theatres including the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon. He continued to be passionate about education, as a Governor of several schools overseas and acted as an educational consultant following Headships in schools in Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Howard lived his final years in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

The Old Bromsgrovian Golf Society day and AGM takes place on 17th September 2026 at Blackwell.

Cost: £100 (or half price - £50 - for under 35s)

The day includes lunch, nine holes am, optional, and 18 holes after lunch.

We were delighted to hear from Old Bromsgrovian Boris Belov (Wendron-Gordon 2021-2025) who recently made his debut as a playwright.

Earlier this year, he started working on a script called “Едно и Също” - “One and the Same” for the centennial celebration of a festival held in Central Bulgaria “Просвета 1926” - “Enlightenment 1926”. The script is based on a one-page local tale which follows the founder of a small Bulgarian village (Voneshta voda) during the Ottoman Empire’s control of Bulgaria. The founder attempts to host and please the Turkish Mudurin (administrator), but as always in comedies, it goes wrong and gets worse and worse throughout the 90-minute play.

The play’s premiere was performed in front of an audience of around 100 people by Theatrical Group “Suglasie”, who will soon take the performance on tour within Central Bulgaria.

Boris says that his writing developed at Bromsgrove through his experience with the the School's Drama department.
