On 23rd February 2026 the government finally published their School’s White Paper.

Alongside the White Paper was a consultation document outlining the proposals for SEND Reform. The consultation period of 12 weeks will end on 18th May.

This is a decade-long reform programme and many of the proposals will require legislative changes and therefore will take several years before they are enacted.

REMEMBER: The duties within he Children and Families Act 2014 will remain until new legislation comes into force.

I have summarised the 129 pages of the consultation document to make it easier to digest and I encourage you all to respond to the consultation if there are any areas you have strong opinions about.

Following on from the news that a school banned a child with autism participating in a school trip I feel the need to write this. There are boys and girls that nobody invites to birthdays for example. There are kids who want to belong to a team but don't get selected because it is more important to win than include these children. Children with special needs are not rare or strange, they only want what everyone else wants: to be accepted !! 😡Can I ask a question?? Is there anyone willing to copy and paste this post to their wall without sharing it, like I did for a friend??

Lorraine is an accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructor and is available to deliver the 2 day MHFA training course to individuals or groups within schools/colleges.
