Bromsgrove Speakers Club

Bromsgrove Speakers Club We help our members to develop their skills and confidence for public speaking, presenting and chairing meetings. And we aim to make it an enjoyable experience.

We are an independent not-for-profit club run by our members. We provide learning on all aspects of public speaking and presenting. Beginner or experienced speaker, we can help you. Membership is open to anyone age 18 and above. We meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings, all year round. And it doesn't matter when you join us in the year, as each meeting is self-contained.

We have five presenters taking part in our PowerPointFest on Tuesday 8th. Plus we have a Spotlight on a recent speaking event in the Netherlands, and our usual Impromptu Speaking session.

And we are in a different room from usual!

At last night's meeting we heard three amazing speeches, each of which told a story, but each of a very different kind. And then the impromptu speaking session!

How did every speaker come up with an excellent two minute speech on quite challenging subjects that they were given as they stepped up to speak?

Join Bromsgrove Speakers Club and you too could become an excellent speaker.

This time next week we'll be starting our next meeting. We have three speakers delivering very different speeches, which should provide learning for everyone. And then, after the interval, it will be our regular Impromptu speaking session.

As always, visitors are welcome, but we ask that you book your Taster Evening with us via the Contact page on our website.

Last night's annual Impromptu Speaking contest was held over two rounds. In the first round the theme was Colours and contestants had to try to speak for three minutes without any preparation on a colour drawn from a hat (cardboard box).

In the second round the top four speakers from the first round spoke on the same subject - Public Transport. They waited outside the room until it was their turn to speak so that they had no idea what they would be asked to speak about.

It was a very close contest with some very different and entertaining speeches. The picture shows head judge, Hannah, presenting the cup to the eventual winner, Anne (left).

On Tuesday 28th we have our annual impromptu speaking competition. Most of us do far more impromptu speaking, for example, speaking in meetings, than formal speeches or presentations. Which is why we have some form of impromptu speaking at all of our meetings.

Two speeches at our meeting last night, followed by a round robin debate. Then, after the interval, we had Impromptu Speaking, followed by another round robin debate to close the meeting.

Our next meeting on July 28th features our annual Impromptu Speaking contest.

Then in August the focus will return to speeches addressing the various aspects of speaking covered by our speaker development modules.

Happy Birthday to Bromsgrove Speakers Club!

It is eleven year ago this evening that we held the first meeting of BSC in The Barn at the Bell.

What a wonderful evening we had with a speech on art that included a huge book as a visual aid, followed by dire warnings on some types of holiday and then somehow our third speech ended up with us racing hovercrafts in what was then known as Czechoslovakia.

And that was before we got to our impromptu speaking session where we learned about different types of holiday and ended up jumping out of a plane and parachuting to earth.

Joining a local organization or a group like Toastmasters can provide a supportive, low-stakes environment to practice in front of others and build your confidence.

So says Google.

Bromsgrove Speakers Club can certainly provide a supportive and low stakes environment to develop your speaking confidence and skills.

Wow, what a wonderful evening! Three speeches to camera in our VideoFest, followed by lots of helpful feedback for the speakers from the audience.

Then an entertaining educational exercise where members had to use gestures rather than words for description.

After the interval we had our regular impromptu speaking session but with a twist that encouraged creative speaking! The feedback on the session was provided by a member taking on the role for the first time and doing it very well.

And the icing on the proverbial cake was a new member joining us and a second time visitor asking to join!
