We had a wonderful day celebrating Motherās Day! As well as playing their pieces, some students presented their compositions dedicated to their mums and some students played duets with their mums.
Thank you to all the amazing students who came to play today!

šCompetition and Festival time coming upš
I hear many students talking about winning and not winning.
Guess what, Iām not interested in you winning!
Itās a place where you can see how far youāve come. Itās a place for YOU to test your ability. Your growth has nothing to do with anyone elseās growth. Donāt let people confuse you. Itās also a place you can get productive advice from fantastic adjudicators who are also teachers themselves and they want you to keep growing too.
You are the one using these events to enhance your growth. Donāt offer yourself to boost other peopleās pride and egos which doesnāt do any good for the world. Making a mistake is not embarrassing. Itās the part of growing as a performance artist. Use it as an opportunity to be better. Itās also an OPPORTUNITY to listen to what other passionate pianists are practising and an OPPORTUNITY to get some inspiration!
Focus on
YOUR brilliance
YOUR achievement
YOUR next goal
YOUR creation
YOUR passion
Itās about you and your art.
Win or no win, whatever. If you do your best, thatās all it matters!!

Video for the parents with beginner students and cannot sit in the lesson.
Why is it important to focus on getting the wrist correctly at the start of learning the piano? Here is the video of to explain why I always take time to do some wrist warm up and how we do it. Also to clarify what I write in the homework notes! Enjoy your practice!

š¤š¼All learning can be (and should be) personalised! When learning becomes fun, the possibility is endless!
If there are 10 people in the class room, there are 10 ways of learning. Every student has different approach to learning.
Some mathematical brains will analyse first, some artistic brain might create an image first, some sporty brain might prefer to do some actions first, some passionate gamers prefer to imagine some game characters first⦠all before creating their own interpretation of pieces of music.
When we can relate their playing to learning, thatās when the fun starts in learning.
When you get stuck practising with your children at home, be a bit more creative. Have fun. Let them find fun in practising first then practice will start to happen more frequently without those looong negotiations!

This is a strange phenomenon happening in my house. I admit that itās not to do with learning, but this task was a chore for them beforeā¦.
My kids love pretend play and also Sonic the hedgehog. Never been good at tidying up but suddenly they are amazing at it when they pretend to be Sonic the hedgehog. They actually do it super speed as well. They donāt mind doing it as long as they are in the character. š

šTHE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING THE CORRECT WORDS WHILST TEACHING CHILDRENš
I had a fantastic annual training day at work. One of the talk was about āSetting the stage for Successā by wonderful Stepping Stone senior consultant Nicola Eason.
One of the things she highlighted in her talk was how important it is to choose the correct words whilst teaching children.
Tell them more āDoās than āDonātās.
Encouraging to do things with the āDoā words makes instructions clearer and verifies every step as a positive step. This will lead to building confidence.
Telling them to ādonātā do something doesnāt create clear instructions and possibly creates anxiety about taking the next step. Eventually their actual piano practice will become anxious process and lead to getting lack of enthusiasm for practising.
Positive words need to be kept at home whilst practising with your own child too.
I definitely been told this by a piano teacher at Guildhall who said, āNever write, DONāT on your music. Only write what to DO. Your brain wonāt get your instructions if you phrase it with the word DONāT!ā
Power of words is immense!
