Not a lot of blackberries picked this year due to them going over so fast.

But, I will be on the lookout for more.

I will post reels soon of what I make with them.

๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ THIS IS NOW SOLD ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Many thanks Jan ๐Ÿค—

It always feels rewarding selling an item that I created. And yet when the buyer arrives I always feel a little sad to say goodbye to my creations.

All of the time I spend creates a connection.

But it is comforting knowing it is going to a good home ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's not perfect
The tiles are in wonky lines
The colours are random
Some of the tiles are higher due to the break in the lid.

But after nearly two weeks it is finished and I love it, and I can't wait to use it as my camping stove worktop when I next go car-camping.

Well hello there my lovelies.

I have just had a most wonderful day gardening for two incredible clients.

I was back at Ruth's for the first time in TWO months ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜

And then a lovely couple of hours in the lovely garden, steeped in beauty belonging to Sylvia.

Whilst in Ruth's garden I found the cutest, tiniest, prettiest little fungi. Just snuggled in between the lovely little frongs of moss... oh my days ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜

No. Not fly agaric (Amanita muscaria). This cute little fungi hiding in my favourite moss is the 'orange mosscap' mushroom ๐Ÿค—

Rickenella fibula..oh such a pretty Latin name to match a pretty little mushroom.

It grows directly out of moss. Best place to be in my humble opinion ๐Ÿ˜„

They are not toxic. So, yes you could eat them... but pleeease, why would you ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I dug a chunk out of the ground and popped it in my little phone bag.

At Sylvia's I found a lovely piece of old broken wood. Absolutely perfect shape.

Now, at home, the little clump of moss containing the orange mosscap mushrooms is snuggled into the chunk of old branch and is in my front garden.

When my back garden is complete, I will be encouraging them to grow in the shaded areas where I will have more moss than grass, of course ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well my lovelies I am about to do a bit of studying before making some yummy foraged foodies dinner.

Chat later.. get outside before it rains ๐Ÿค—

Back at Winny's garden yesterday and the roots of the Cinquefoil where deeper than bramble.

Tune in next week to see the removal of the remaining ants nest and to discover what's under the overgrowth at the side of the pond ๐Ÿค”

Good morning everyone ๐Ÿฅฐ

It looks like it's going to be a rather damp start to my day. The rain is not heavy and is going to be intermittent, so I am definitely going out gardening and will put the parasol to good use ๐Ÿ˜

Yesterday I showed you a lovely display of chickweed, dock seeds, cornflower seeds and black nightshade berries.

I promised I would get back to you with what I was going to do with this little collection. And then I forgot ๐Ÿ˜

So let us start with cornflower

Not many people consider cornflower a food or even a medicine, but it is both.

Centaurea cyanus flowers are edible and where often used in salads.

The petals where also once used as an eye wash to relieve tired and strained eyes.

The extracts of cornflower are frequently used in skin care. If you make a warm infusion and use as a toner it is said to tone the skin, balance the Ph and reduce redness.

Tone the skin ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I need a bucket load ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…

Extracts have been used for many years in makeup removers.

If you create a nice almond oil infusion, then add this to some coconut oil and aloe gel, you will have a nice homemade makeup remover, and you can always use a bit of the infusion to clear off any excess cornflower lotion ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒฟ

Now let us get to the seeds.

The seeds are usually added to bird feed. And I believe they are loved by goldfinch.

But traditionally, cornflower seeds where used as a mild laxative and it was children who where given these in cases of mild constipation.

As we all know, laxatives can cause awful griping and cramping in the stomach. And, it is not particularly nice for kiddies to take laxatives, especially some of the pharmaceutical products. (I am speaking from experience here, after watching Ed from age 4 to 6 years being given all kinds of laxatives, instead of just assigning him.a dietician ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ, and seeing him curled up in a ball with the cramping that follwed each dose).

But cornflower seeds are soft and gentle on the stomach.

So how does this work?
What makes these little seeds work?

Time to get all chemically interesting ๐Ÿ˜

The seeds have bitter compounds and glycosides.

These act as mild digestive stimulants. They trigger bitter receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, promoting bile secretion and increasing smooth muscle motility to naturally ease digestion. So it is soothing and gentle.

You will find indole alkaloids present in these seeds. But don't panic over the word 'alkaloid' as all plants have them,

These indole alkaloids are nitrogenous compounds, and they are the primary chemical group linked to the seed's specific purgative qualities.

Now here is the lovely bit ๐Ÿค—
They contain soluble carbohydrates. The seeds also contain complex sugars and mucilage-like structures that naturally attract water into the bowel, softening the stool.

Isn't this amazing ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒฟ

So now you know why I am going to be collecting the cornflower seeds from my garden ๐Ÿฅฐ

They will be added to my apothecary once fully dried and some will be sprinkled in my garden for next year, so I can harvest some petals ๐Ÿ˜Š

Now remember folks, don't try this at home. No, seriously, always speak to a qualified herbalist or research thoroughly before using any plant medicine.

Ps research thoroughly doesn't mean googel AI and check a few sites. It means understanding the chemical compounds, how they effect certain medications and health conditions..

Thank you for reading, following and supporting my page everyone.

Look out for the posts for the rest of my little garden forage.

Take care and get outside ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฅฐ

Tatty bye for now everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜

I am home. I have eaten and I am currently forcing myself awake ๐Ÿ˜†

So come and talk to me my lovelies. Tell me how your day has been ๐Ÿ˜Š

I had a wonderful time back at Linda's. There was still plenty of horsetail to remove, along with that awful creeping thistle.

You know, I've been thinking. If someone said to me 'you have to keep ONE wild plant in your garden permanently and we will magic the rest away', and the list they gave me consisted of:
A. Horsetail
B. Bramble
C. Nettle
D. Creeping thistles
E. Bindweed

Out of all those I would 100% ask to keep horsetail.

Why?

Because the others are actually nasty little triffids.

Apart from bindweed they scratch, they prickle, they sting... and they are just awful to control.

Bindweed. Okay. It may not be prickly or stingy but bindweed wraps itself around your plants. It pulls them down. It smothers and strangles them. And when you try to pull it off you take half your prized clematis with it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But horsetail. It doesn't sting or stick thorns in my hands or try to strangle the lovely Japanese anemones. AND it will clean your pots and pans.... AND it makes a great hair rince... AND it has been used in many herbal remedies.

I understand not wanting it in the garden as it does crowd out plants... but I do believe it is not the worst.

So yes please Mr Genie.. magic away all the others and I will keep horsetail ๐Ÿคฃ

I enjoyed more than just making the beds look clearer at Linda's, I got to run my fingers through.... some moss ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐ

Oh yes.Thick green moss. Like a warm yet damp carpet. It was there. So beautifully wrapped around a big boulder. If I had to choose between a golfcourse style lawn or moss lawn.. you know it....

M O S S ๐ŸŒฟ M O S S ๐ŸŒฟ M O S S

And as if the day couldn't get any better as I was leaving... Linda gave me some homemade apple cake. Which I nibbled on all the way to Jeff's garden.

I had a lovely chat with Jeff, and as I was standing in his garden I spotted the most heavily laden elderberry tree.

'There are blackberries along the path too' he informs me.

Out the gate, bucket in hand and off I go.

Lots of Elderberries picked, but the blackberries were slim pickings. Still, I was thankful for what I received ๐Ÿ˜Š

After Jeff's it was time to go for a quick shop to get milk and head for home.

I found 20p on the floor. ๐Ÿ˜
Did I pick it up? Damn right I did ๐Ÿคฃ
Every found penny goes in a saving jar to be donated to a charity. Usually an animal charity like hedgehog rescue, bat rescue etc.

So now I'm on the sofa, belly full and I'm feeling a bit more awake.

So it's time to sort out my foraged foodies.

That's a post for later.

Chat soon and keep an eye out for videos about this morning's foodies ๐Ÿ˜‰

The sun is shining. It's not hotter than the Sahara and I am back out gardening today.

Yesterday I was at the lovely Olive's garden and it was great to see how much work Olive had done since I last attended.

I am going to create a video from last year to now, at some point so you can see the amazing changes.

Today I am at lovely Linda's and Jeff's gardens. I will post updates later.

I have already had a busy start this morning as all my garden tools needed to be scrubbed and cleaned to avoid cross contamination as many plants are suffering mould.

I have also been in my garden foraging a few berries and seeds for my apothecary and plate.

What are your plans for today?

Have you been foraging and what have you foraged?

Time for me to get my shoes on and head off to lovely Linda's.

Take care everyone and get outside ๐Ÿค—

Tatty bye for now ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜
