Thank you to all the people who joined last weekend's workshop and everyone who was interested! I'm announcing the next workshop: an introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony.

This workshop is about traditional Japanese tea gatherings and includes insights into what the Japanese tea ceremony is about and how to join a tea gathering as a guest.

There will be a structured tea room setup with tatami matting where I will serve you traditional sweets and a bowl of Matcha tea. Join me in the afternoon and try ceremonial grade matcha in a peaceful garden room at Heather Lodge.

We had a workshop test run at the heather lodge in Brodick. Their garden room is so peaceful and filled with beautiful light from the windows. It is an absolutely perfect place for my workshop. I hope to see you there soon!

I am excited to announce my upcoming workshop: An introduction to the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

I'm a Japanese tea ceremony practitioner of the Urasenke house, who lives on Isle of Arran. I would like to invite you to a Chakai, a tea gathering where I will prepare matcha and sweets in a traditional manner. Anyone is welcom and no prior experience is necessary. Hope to see you three!

【Japanese tea ceremony workshops on Arran】

「茶道」 (Chadô) the 'way of tea' is the japanese art of preparing tea. 道 (dô) means 'way', which implies that a mindfulness of a process becomes a way to learn manners, and a way to train and nurture one's spirit within it.

I will be hosting 「茶会」 (Chakai) - tea gatherings where you can enjoy traditionally prepared Japanese matcha with sweets. We celebrate the changing of the seasons and appreciate the people gathering to share the moment together with CHAKAI.

Preparing for the upcoming workshops reminds me how much of a comprehensive art the way of tea is. There is much to learn for me about flowers, sweets, seasons, tools, traditions. Here on Arran, far from my teacher in Japan, it can be overwhelming sometimes. This morning, I took a small moment before leaving the house to quietly practice Bonryaku-temae(tea making with a tray). I sat on the goza mat, moved my hands, and faced my imperfection. After days of chasing endless information on tea ceremony online, I realized something simple: it is just the quiet desire to learn that guides us down the right path.

「花は野にあるように」— to arrange flowers as they are in the field.
I walked to a recently cleared field to see what had naturally emerged. The monkey flower is rarely used in the traditional tea ceremony. Nevertheless, it holds a beautiful strength in the field, as well as here, within the hand-woven flag iris basket.
