At Broadstone Christian Nursery we understand why scissor skill activities such as snipping paper, cutting and exploring and cutting a variety of materials are significant for our early years’ children. They provide opportunities for improving their fine motor skills as well as developing their muscles and precision which help their physical movements to become refined and purposeful.

At Broadstone Christian Nursery we understand that mark making matters. Mark making is an important part of early years' development as it plays a crucial role in several prime and specific learning areas outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Through their marks, children are communicating their ideas, expressing their feelings, developing their imagination and creativity, and testing their hypotheses about the world.
‘Scribbles are products of a systematic investigation, rather than haphazard actions’.

At Broadstone Christian Nursery we understand the importance of reading during the early years. Early reading ignites creativity, sparks curiosity, and stimulates the imagination in young children.
Often, this leads to role-play as children grow which helps to develop other skills such as empathy, problem-solving, and morality. While these are significant benefits to young children, the biggest psychological benefit is how reading helps to grow self-confidence and independence from such an early age.
At any time during the day the children can choose to look at a book either on their own, with a friend or ask a practitioner to read a particular favourite book to them. From an early age children can learn to hold books the correct way up and that print carries meaning. They talk about the illustrations and begin to discuss vocabulary they have heard during the story and what it means.

Broadstone Christian Nursery recognises physical development as a crucial area of learning.
The EYFS wants children to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. We encourage the children to experiment with different ways of moving, negotiating space, travelling with confidence and balancing.
Balancing has been very popular with the children who have had fun learning to balance along the beam unassisted.

At Broadstone Christian Nursery we have been learning about harvest time and collecting food for those in need in our local community. We visited Broadstone Methodist Church and learned about Harvest Festival which celebrates the time of year when crops have been gathered from the field and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have.
The festival is usually celebrated on the Sunday nearest to the Harvest Moon. This year this was on the 1st October.
