Revision tip 5: When Romeo and Juliet first meet at the ball Juliet send the Nurse to ask his name. "If he be married, my grave is like to be my wedding bed ". This foreshadows Act 4 when she actually takes the potion to avoid marrying Paris as her family perceive it this way.

Revision tip 4: These men are Eddie Beddoes and Guardsman Tromans from a documentary called "The Not Dead" where they spoke about their experiences of war. Simon Armitage turned these interviews (with Eddie's wife as well) into "Manhunt" and "Remains." Watch the documentary to see how Simon Armitage tried to capture the speech of the participants. These poems were written in a specific context, they are not Armitage's experience but they are real experiences that he is trying to convey.

Revision tip 3: one of my favourite metaphors in "War Photographer" by Carol Ann Duffy is the line "A hundred agonies in black and white". This could be hyperbole, but it could be true and helps to explain the way newspapers used to work. It also shows the intensity of the experience for the photographer who has captured his memories in print. There is a contrast to the line from "Remains" by Simon Armitage where the soldier remembers the injured looter as "the image of agony". In this case there is no photograph or "image" except "here in my head when I close my eyes."

Revision tip 2: In one of Birling's first speeches in "An Inspector Calls" he says:“A man has to make his own way - has to look after himself - and his family, too, of course, when he has one - and so long as he does that he won’t come to much harm. But the way some of these cranks talk and write now, you’d think everybody has to look after everybody else, as if we were all mixed up together like bees in a hive - community and all that nonsense."
Not only does this link nicely to two other points in the play- one when Eric refers to his father's"good advice" when speaking to the Inspector and one at the end when he reminds his father that "one of those cranks" turned up - but also this gives a concise definition of Birling's capitalist views and view of socialism.

Revision tip 1. In Stave One, the charitable gentlemen ask Scrooge for money to buy the poor some "meat, drink and means of warmth". In Stave Five, to show his alteration, Scrooge buys Bob and his "struggling family" some "meat";then tells Bob they will discuss his affairs "over a bowl of smoking bishop " (drink) and to "buy another coal scuttle" (means of warmth)
