Today’s theme in Maths : The pie chart that resembles a circle which has been split into sectors.

The angle of each sector is representative of the proportions of the whole data sample.

If the sectors are coloured, a key should be included to explain what each colour represents.

The proportions in a pie chart may be represented as a percentage.

When drawing a pie chart, a protractor will be used to draw the angles accurately.

This morning, I held a series of Maths sessions that focused on good old Place Value that describes the position or place of a digit in a number. Each digit has a place in a number. When we represent the number, the position of each digit will be expanded. Those positions start from a unit place or we also call it one’s position. The order of place value of digits of a number of right to left is units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, a hundred thousand, and so on.

National Allocation Day is on Monday for students entering secondary school in September.

On this long-anticipated day, secondary school place offers have now been made available to parents and year 6 students.

At Tutors4kids , I’m excited to hear of enthusiastic young students moving to the schools of their choice and, come September, into a new school family. Between now and then, we must work on ensuring the support they need is firmly in place to make a success of the transition. Attend Open Days and meet the staff, exciting days are ahead. For my 11+ pupils, in particular, this is the day it is all real. So, congratulations to everyone. May your dreams be fulfilled.

Each poetry anthology in the GCSE contains 15 poems, and in the poetry question in the exam you will be given one poem on the paper - printed in full - and asked to compare this given poem to one other from the anthology. Sessions today focus on ‘Storm on the Island’, which was written by the Irish poet Seamus Heaney published in 1966. The main themes of this poem are therefore based on both its literal meaning in the power of nature, and in its hidden meaning of physical and political conflict associated with ‘ The Troubles’ and the political tensions in Northern Ireland.

I would like to pay tribute to my home schooling pupils who have been factorising and solving quadratic equations with me on a Monday morning! Trust me, we had fun as well but a necessary topic ticked off the big list. Well done to them. It’s all about learning a system and sticking with it (and don’t be put off by them).
