Brixham Table Tennis Club Est. 1993, our club is open to anyone wanting to play whether new to the game or experienced players returning to the sport. Fancy a challenge?

Every year we field a number of teams in the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League. Established in 1993 Brixham Table Tennis Club is held 6PM - 9PM every Monday night at Brixham College Sports Centre, Lytes Road, Brixham TQ5 9SN (free parking is available at the Lytes Road car park next to the sports centre). The sessions are open to anyone interested in table tennis whether completely new to t

Bats are available for use & coaching is on hand from Table Tennis England accredited coaches. A variety of ages, abilities & experience levels play at our club from those who attend simply for fun to those who play in the local South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League. We only charge £5 for each three hour session, though attendees are more than welcome to donate larger sums, but if it's your first time at the club your first session is free.

Table Tennis this Monday 24th August from 6pm to 9pm at Brixham College Sports Centre, please check with Thinking Fitness at Brixham for car parking details at the sports centre.

Our tables will be set up in the lower hall at the end of the centre corridor, Table Tennis England accredited coaching will be available for those in attendance & if it's your first time at our club there's no charge! (£5 per session thereafter).

Never played table tennis or has it been "some time" since you picked up a bat? We have spare bats available for use & our club's comprised of players of varying ability & ages, from those starting out & our junior players to more experienced & veteran players, so we will pair you up with someone of similar skill level as an introduction or re-introduction to the game.

Our sessions are loosely structured to start off with practice & drills that vary depending on who practices with who - what needs to be worked on & improved such as serving technique, smash technique, how to chop, block, drive... or what a player is ready to have introduced to their game. As our sessions progress we'll play games & matches, have mini-tournaments, play doubles & maybe even end the session with "Top Table" where all players, irrespective of their ability, have the chance to play against anyone else depending on who rises & falls in the "Top Table" ranks that evening.

Cannot make it this Monday? We play Table Tennis same place, same time every week unless prior stated here!

So how do we SMASH! in Table Tennis? Is it simply a matter of hitting the ball as hard as possible & "hoping for the best"? No! Doing so will not result in a SMASH! More than likely the ball will either overshoot the table or slap in to the net & a point will have been given away! Like so many aspects of Table Tennis an effective SMASH! is brought about by combining a number of elements: a change in stance, feet & torso, a change in the position of the bat in relation to the table, a change in grip of the bat ...& the application of power as the bat is brought up to "scoop" the ball arcing over the net. If all these elements combine then the SMASH! will occur... but this is no guarantee of winning the point! Perhaps your opponent will SMASH! the ball back at you OR do something to try & take the SMASH! energy out of the ball as they return it to you! Can you SMASH! or not?

You have the chance to find out as we will be playing Table Tennis this Monday 17th August from 6pm to 9pm at Brixham College Sports Centre, please check with Thinking Fitness at Brixham for car parking details at the sports centre.

Our tables shall be set up in "the lower hall" at the end of the centre corridor, Table Tennis England accredited coaching will be available for those in attendance & if it's your first time at our club there's no charge! (£5 per session thereafter).

PLEASE NOTE! THE SMASH! IS JUST ONE OF THE HITS WE USE IN TABLE TENNIS, HITTING THE BALL HARD IS NOT ALL THAT TABLE TENNIS IS ABOUT! THE DRIVE, BLOCK, SPIN & CHOP ARE ALSO FUNDAMENTAL TO PLAYING TABLE TENNIS & GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE GAME!

P.S. Please note! We didn't break the windows! Though Table Tennis balls travel at quite some speed when given the full SMASH! They are a magical kind of ball, please see some of our recent posts about our discovery of the Table Tennis Faeries, that wouldn't result in a smashed window if a ball were projected/knocked/mis-hit at one!

Although our training sessions are temporarily out of action for the moment (don’t worry, we are back on again on Monday 10th August), we carry on our preparation for the 2026-27 season starting in October.

We currently have players to make up 4-5 teams.

Have you played league table tennis before? Would you like to give it a go?

If so, come along on Monday 10th August and have a knock and a chat with the organisers. Alan and Clive will be in the Thinking Fitness bottom hall from 6pm. It would be great to have some new faces representing our club in the South Devon & Torbay league.

Team entries are due in by mid-August so you haven’t got long. Hope to see you next Monday!!
