This is the poem read at Teifion Rees’ funeral, chosen by his daughter:

Instructions
Rev. Arnold Crompton: 1914 – 1998

When I have moved beyond you in the adventure of life, gather in some pleasant place and there remember me with spoken words, old and new.

Let a tear fall if you will, but let a smile come quickly for I have loved the laughter of life.

Do not linger too long with your solemnities. Go eat, and drink and talk, and when you can:

Follow a woodland trail, climb a high mountain, walk along the wild seashore, chew the thoughts of some book that challenges your soul.

Use your hands some bright day to make a thing of beauty, or to lift someone’s heavy load.

Though you mention not my name, though no thought of me crosses your mind, I shall be with you for these have been the realities of life for me.

And when you face some crisis with anguish, when you walk alone with courage, when you choose your path of right, I shall be very close to you.

I have followed the valleys, I have climbed the heights of life.

I was privileged to be at the funeral of Teifion Rees today and to witness how many people came to pay their respects. A significant number of former staff were present which speaks volumes about how highly he was regarded. His wife Eileen and his children now need our prayers

It’s with great sadness that I have to report the passing away of Teifion Rees, former teacher and governor of Cwrt Sart. Many will remember Teifion leading the battle against the local authority’s plan to close the school, and the exceptional fight he put up. Teifion was short in stature but a giant of Cwrt Sart and it was such an honour to know him and to work with him. He taught me many things. He was a brilliant teacher, a great head of year and senior teacher. He had to finish due to ill health and was never happy with the way his career ended, so it was no surprise when he turned up again as a school governor eventually becoming chair of governors. We met regularly and he was constantly supportive, but more importantly a great friend.

Teifion’s funeral will take place at Margam Crematorium on Tuesday 26 November, commencing at 10:30. If you can make it to pay your respects that would be a fitting tribute to him.

I’ve just heard that one of our ex-pupils, Melanie Lewis, has passed away at the age of 40. I remember Mel as a happy, smiling, vivacious girl. What a sad loss

The end of a wonderful school. We couldn’t keep it open but we made sure it closed with an outstanding reputation and a brilliant inspection report.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Tomorrow is the end of term and the end of the teaching careers of Mr John Jones, Mrs Pat Parry and Mrs Sue Palmer. All three made a huge contribution to Cwrt Sart and continued to do so at YBB. Let’s hope they all have a happy retirement. I understand Mrs Karen Davies is also leaving YBB on a secondment and we wish Karen well with that.

So many staff from Cwrt Sart have already left YBB for pastures new, probably a third to a half of the staff who went there. They all seem happy in their new jobs, some still in schools, some not.
