Hi everyone a few weeks ago staff attended training on managing challenging behaviour
The keys points we learnt were..

If a child can’t write we teach
If a child can read we teach
If they can’t tie their shoes we teach
If they can’t climb we teach.

But
If a child cannot yet manage their “behaviour we ?????
Why is this sentence harded to finish?

Behaviour is learning in action
Mistakes are opportunities for learning and discovery
Behaviour is early self advocacy
behaviour gives us information about stress , emotional regulation engagment , motivation, unmet needs and developmental needs.

Children need a space to relax such as reading spaces and spaces to relax.

Space our bodies have a right to react and therefore need spaces where we can regulate emotions.

Space to retreat
Children need spaces to hide such as dens under tables and behind things. Sometimes they do not seek out adult intervention as an adults can place pressure on them to quickly recover so they made need space (safely of course)

Space to resolve

Our environment should offer opportunity to resolve behaviour through response care = giving empathy forgiveness and role modelling.

Well being choices can be
Running
playdough
Favourite toy
Massage
Figet toys
Have a lie down
