We are a not for profit community urban greening project based in Cotham, Bristol. Cotham Parish Church sits on the edge of High Kingsdown.
We run free gardening sessions to create beautiful wildlife friendly gardens for residents, commuters and wildlife. We are Cotham Parish Church, High Kingsdown Community Association and residents who want Cotham and Kingsdown to be beautiful and green, better for wildlife and for people. munity gardening projects which work out of HKCA and the church; Green Cotham and Green High Kingsdown. Green Cotham is a free drop in group organised by Cotham Parish Church that runs weekly on Wednesday afternoons 2-4pm. The aims are to get local people together and to take care of local green spaces so they are beautiful and helpful to local wildlife. Last year we had 35 volunteers including 8 students helping us to develop an insect friendly meadow, we built insect hotels, planted trees, created a hoverfly lagoon, mini ponds, we built new pollinator friendly flowerbeds in the church and in High Kingsdown, and many other wildlife friendly projects. https://cothamparishchurch.org/groups/#greencotham
Green Cotham is being funded by Awards for All 2022-23
Green High Kingsdown is the name of several different community initiatives formed by residents of High Kingsdown. Starting in 2016 over the years we've worked with the council, residents and UoB gardening clubs to repair rotting brick planters, dig out many weed tree stumps, maintain planted areas and planted many trees. In 2017 High Kingsdown was part of a pilot study looking at alternatives to the pesticide glyphosate. The study ran for a year and since then our estate has remained pesticide free and we have regular community sessions caring for lanes. In 2019 we worked with the council on the new High Kingsdown playground and asked for green and natural elements to be included in the designs. It's grey stone walls are surrounded by gardens and Green Cotham is working on these so they become wildlife friendly community gardens with public seating.
