This Week at the Stables...

This week we’ve been learning some really important horse handling skills! We have been practising how to safely lead the horses to and from the field, while also learning to be aware of what’s happening around them.

We’ve been focusing on how to read the horse we are leading, noticing their body language, behaviour and how they are responding, as well as learning to read the other horses in the field and understand how they interact with one another.

It’s been a fantastic way to build confidence and awareness, while learning to understand and build trust with these amazing animals. 🐎💚

🐴🌿Wellbeing Sessions | Week 1 🌿🐴

What a fantastic first week of our Wellbeing Sessions at Cottage Riding Stables!

This week was all about getting to know our ponies and learning the foundations of caring for a horse. We got stuck into the practical side of yard life, including:

🧹 Mucking out
🌾 Making and filling haynets
💩 Poo picking
🐴 Grooming and general pony care

There's so much more to grooming and caring for a horse than simply keeping them clean. We started to explore why grooming is important, how it can help us build trust and connection and how horses communicate with us through their body language and behaviour.

The children began learning how to understand and communicate with a horse, developing confidence in approaching, handling and working alongside these amazing animals

There were lots of new experiences, plenty of hands on learning and hopefully some moments of calm, connection and enjoyment along the way.

This is just the beginning and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone’s confidence and understanding grow over the coming weeks.

🐾 Meet Arlo - looking for his loving new home 🐾

Arlo is a gorgeous 2 year old Cockerdor with a lovely temperament and lots of love to give. ❤️

He’s a young, energetic boy who absolutely loves attention, affection and plenty of walks. He would really benefit from a home where he has the space and opportunity to burn off all that energy and enjoy an active life.

Arlo is:
🐾 2 years old
🐾 Crate trained
🐾 Toilet trained
🐾 Fit and healthy with no known health problems
🐾 Very loving and affectionate
🐾 Full of energy and loves his walks

When Arlo gets excited he can jump up, so a home without young children would be best. He also isn’t suitable for a home with cats.

Most of all, Arlo just needs a loving home with someone who has plenty of time for him, lots of affection to give and can provide the exercise and attention he needs 🥰
