Some baked. Some stitched. Some sculpted. One made jelly... naturally 🔬 🍮

Year 7 were tasked with creating artistic representations of cells, and it’s fair to say they took the brief and ran with it! Cake, clay, sewing, polystyrene and one rather wobbly contribution later, we had a classroom full of cellular masterpieces 👏

Who knew Biology could be quite so appetising?

Huge shoutout to our fab Science teachers Mr Hayward and Mr Hughes-Games for making each and every science lesson one to remember 🙌

Every now and then, a note from a parent lands in our inbox and reminds us why the little things matter so much.

The good manners. The kindnesses. The habit of looking on the bright side. All the things Mrs Isaachsen holds so dear, and all the things we hope our children will carry with them long after they’ve left The Downs 🌳🦍📚

And then there’s the bit about the friendships between families. Because somewhere along the way, a school becomes rather more than a school… don’t you think?

Team, a scrumptious start to our Monday this morning! Mrs Isaachsen, along with our Head Pupils and Mrs Pierce, enjoyed some delicious red velvet cakes (ooer!) with our wonderful new pupils to celebrate their new beginnings at The Downs 🙌

We are beyond proud of their resilience and positive approach to all things new (and, let’s be honest, a little daunting!), and can’t wait to see what they’ll go onto achieve this term 👏🦍🌳

“HELP IS ON THE WAY, DEAR!” 🏃‍♀️💨🌊

And help certainly arrived! 😂🧤

Our brilliant young beach-cleaning crew got stuck in today, filling bags, clearing litter and doing their bit to look after our beautiful coastline. ♻️💚

Proof that you’re never too young to make a difference… and that a little community spirit goes a long way!

A huge thank you to the amazing pupils and parents who got involved with today’s beach clean!

Down the Drive 21 - 25 September 2026 🦍🌳📚

Featuring a lovely visit from the littlest Hive pupils to our forest school 🌳; a smart and scholarly turn out for our school photo day 📸; Mr Hayward introducing the exciting Pembroke Award that’s starting for our pupil’s this year (more to follow! 🏔️ 🧭 ⛺️); Mr Bazzard spotlighting the brilliant Year 8s and sharing with the wider Prep school their new responsibilities for this year (we are, indeed, a stand-alone Prep school with fantastic Year 8s sat right at the top!); Mr Hughes-Games effervescent (hope that’s the right term..) science lesson, exploring all things Magnesium and Hydrochloric acid 🧪; a brilliant parent presentation on social media and screen time led by the fantastic team at Papaya ; some well-deserved September sun at breaktime ☀️; a DELICIOUS way to celebrate European Day of Languages (huge thanks again to the fab team at .howells .. our pupils (and Mr Digby) loved the French cuisine!); a reminder of this year’s fantastic theme ⭐; an incredible display of teamwork, resilience and inspiration at our Inter-School XC relay (gorgeous photos shot by Mr Capewell to be shared soon!); a brilliant end to the week enjoying scrummy cakes and coffee in aid of the wonderful (thank you Mrs Wardle & Mrs Dewhirst for your support!) 🧁

Quite a chocker-block-week, don’t you think?

Down the drive 14 - 18 September 2026 🌳🦍📚

Featuring some fantastic Pre-Prep birthday celebrations for Julia Donaldson; stellar rehearsals from The Downs Singers 🎶; some brilliant staff costumes … making break duties and French lessons a little more fun!; a return from the one and only Mr Weaver 🐐; a delicious moment of pause and play on the back lawn for breaktime 🌳; our AMAZING receptioners getting stuck in to all things EYFS 🪏 🎨; Mrs Clark treating our Year 6’s to First Chapter Friday 📕; an incredible Pre-Prep presentation on the front lawn where parents had the chance to see all the brilliant work Reception - Year 3 have achieved so far this term (and shoutout to their wonderful teachers and TAs!); an exciting Year 4 English lesson with Mr Burnell drawing and describing their old wild robots; ICT extraordinaire Mr Isaachsen introducing Year 1 to their first coding lesson! 💻

And breathe! What another amazing week we’ve had 🙌

Parents! This is our big ask … please come and support us this Friday 👏🎥🌳🍿

Bring the family, bring a blanket, bring your snacks and settle down under the stars with us for a proper Friday night treat (go on.. you deserve it 🍿).

It’s a fab opportunity to do something a little different, enjoy a great film and, most importantly, support our event and help us make it a SUCCESS 🙌

So much hard work from our wonderful team has been put in behind the scenes to help make Friday’s outdoor cinema one to remember.

To the parents of The Downs, Clifton High and surrounding Bristol area, come join us!

Pre-show entertainment starts at 6:30pm, with free parking, lots of bubbles and Leonardo DiCaprio all included ….
