Dear Colleagues,
As you may be aware, I have just been appointed the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Strategy & Leadership (SL). Professor Kristel Miller of Ulster University and Dr Tahiru Liedong of University of Bath, as Associate Editors, will be supporting me in managing the journal. Published by Emerald, the journal is ranked CABS 1*, and published Volume 52 in 2024. The journal over the years was very much practitioner focused.
Well, our ambition is to make SL a global peer reviewed journal that bridges the epistemic gaps between the theory and practice of strategy and leadership. The editorial team and I have therefore made some sudden turns to repositioning SL as a pluralistic outlet that publishes conceptual and empirical (quantitative or qualitative) work on a broad range of strategy and leadership related topics, including studies that review, assess, and synthesise the current state of knowledge in the areas of leadership and strategy.
In this regard, the journal will now be publishing only regular scholarly papers between (7000-9,000 words). We are keen on publishing conceptual, theoretical, and empirical research articles focusing on strategy and leadership dilemmas, opportunities, possibilities, potentialities, and limits in contemporary organizing.
The journal seeks to produce knowledge that is relevant to a broad range of readers, including executives, managers, scholars and researchers, students, and policy makers.
Please consider contributing to SL. We are very much open to receiving your contributions in the coming days. Any queries, then please do not hesitate to contact me directly at [email protected] .
Kind regards
David

The concept of business models is strongly associated with digital firms, yet it is relevant and very important for all enterprises. In our upcoming BAM Fellows Masterclass, Professor Charles Baden-Fuller will be exploring how the concept of the business model adds to our understanding of strategy? How should we teach about business models to make them rigorous and relevant? How should we research into business models? What is the best approach – should business models be the context or the independent variable? And are process case studies more likely to be fruitful than cross sectional studies? And what about cognition research? And how easy is it to publish business model papers?

Note: Our series of BAM Masterclasses are delivered by prominent management theorists from across the globe each year. These online Masterclasses are an exceptional learning experience, revealing how top academics think about the world, what inspires them, and how they develop and apply their ideas. Where do influential ideas come from? What leads to them to being widely taken up? During the Masterclasses, our highly renowned speakers explain how their academic and intellectual journeys begun, and how they developed as influential academics in management. There are also opportunities to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers.
