⚠️ Save this post as a reminder that the main sign that your baby or child is choking rather than gagging is SILENCE.
If your child is gagging, you will usually hear them trying to clear their throat or the back of their mouth.
If your child is choking, there is a blockage in their airway, and they cannot make any noise.

🚘 Its the summer school holidays - are you planning on taking your family on a road trip?
It’s so tempting to give the kids some snacks to keep them happy on the road, particularly if it’s a long journey. But eating in the car can pose a significant CHOKING risk!
❗️Choking is SILENT!
❗️With your eyes on the road, it may take a while to notice that something is wrong. It then takes more time to pull over, get the child out of the car seat and start the relevant procedures.
💚Every second counts with choking.
✅So save the snacks for when you get there, or schedule a rest break into your journey time.
⛑If you’re not sure of how to help someone who is choking, why not take a look at the classes we have to offer at Mini First Aid.

BENEDICT’S LAW - is your school ready?
From September 2026, schools across England will be expected to meet new statutory allergy guidance introduced through Benedict’s Law and Mini First Aid can help you ensure your staff are ready with our in person training sessions so your staff can get HANDS ON with the adrenaline devices.
With around one in 13 children now living with a food allergy, the new guidance aims to ensure every school has consistent procedures in place to reduce the risk of allergic reactions and respond quickly and confidently if an emergency occurs.
Now is the time to review your school’s allergy procedures and prepare your staff.

Hands up if you or your child experienced a touch of sunburn after last week’s heatwave? 😬
You will not be alone. At least one-third of British people admit to experiencing at least one episode of sunburn every year.
The sun is often strong enough in the UK to damage skin, even if it is cold or cloudy. UV radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer.
On the Family Health Podcast, we chat with Adele, a mum of two who received a devastating diagnosis of skin cancer on Christmas Eve 2020. Her daughters were just 6 and 7 years old. Please make some time to listen to Adele’s story this week.
You can also learn more about skin burns and how to treat them in our first aid classes - see our website for information on classes in your local area.
And please take care of you and yours as we move into the summer season ☀️
