I certainly am! January 2024, is starting with a bang for me! I am hosting and teaching from the first month of the year.

January
🐏👩🏼🎓 My first student works in the fragrance and flavour sector in human resources. She lives in Lisbon, Portugal but she’s actually French. I’m looking forward to helping her become comfortable with her English listening and speaking skills.

March
👩🏼🎓 Next I will work with a German-speaking Belarusian who is a project sales manager for a German food-processing equipment producer. She knows that the international language for her business is English and wants to speak and understand English better.

April
👩🏼🎓 In May I will host a Swiss student from near Zurich. She’s a psychologist who assesses new recruits for businesses. Her level of English is quite high but she wants to boost her listening and speaking skills.

May
👨🏼🎓 I will be hosting and teaching a French speaker from Paris. He’s a cyber-security risk analyst and often finds himself working with other analysts from around the world. They use English to communicate among themselves. He needs to feel more confident with his listening, speaking and reading skills.

💪🏻WHAT DO ALL THESE PEOPLE HAVE IN COMMON? They all want to get more fluent and comfortable with UNDERSTANDING and SPEAKING English. They understand that the most effective way to accelerate these skills is to fully immerse themselves in the language; to find a coach who can create a personalised course for them; to ‘live the language’ while eating delicious, home-made food and exploring the lively city of Bristol.

🎁EXTRA OPPORTUNITY! Three of my clients will work as a volunteer in a local charity shop. I offer this when a student books a course of three or more weeks. This is an excellent way to speak to a wide range of people, both native and non-native English speakers. It’s also a great way to see how a charity shop works.

A busy summer! 🐝

I've had a busy summer and now the school is closed until January 2024. My full immersion, intensive, one-to-one English coaching courses are the BEST way to improve your English, REALLY FAST! I am currently doing a business coaching course, Flourishing Foundations, run by Rachael Roberts. I am learning some good business habits and top tips. One of the outcomes of this course has to make me count up the actual HOURS of contact time that a student gets during their course I offer. 👍

My package of intensive, full-immersion, one-to-one English coaching which includes meals, accommodation and excursions actually comes to MORE English exposure than a course of one hour of lessons per week for one year. This constant interaction with me in English is also really meaningful and communicative. 🗣

I offer courses of 15 or 20 hours per week. I never offer more than that, as I know it’s exhausting for the student, and for me! I usually recommend a period of at least two weeks, as one week is really not enough time invested to get a solid result. 💪

A course of 15 hours per week includes three hours of one-to-one teaching in the mornings. After the class, we have lunch, which is approximately another one hour of contact time. The evening meal is about two hours of interaction. That is around six hours per day with me which makes a total of 30 hours of concentrated English per week, Monday to Friday. At the weekend or one evening, we go for an excursion, possibly to a live concert 🎷, to another city 🏙 or to a local landmark 🏰. This is usually a MINIMUM of four hours. There are two evening meals at the weekend, which makes eight hours of contact time at the weekend (we have Sunday free as a break from each other until the evening meal). So far, one week and one weekend comes to 38 hours. The second week of provides a further 30 hours, so grand total for the two week course is 68 HOURS OF CONTACT TIME. That is more than spending one hour per week for 52 weeks – assuming you had an English class every week of the year, which is extremely unlikely! 😮

No wonder I and my student find it so intensive! My method offers a huge QUANTITY of English tuition time. What is more, it is QUALITY English contact time. My student wants to speak and to communicate for genuine communicative reasons, rather than just practising asking questions or sentences with modal verbs, for example. The student interacts and experiences English as it is heard and spoken in reality, not as speaking and listening exercises in course books. 👌

My first student this year. D. came for one week in late February to refresh her English. She's the deputy consul for France in Brussels. Her level of was high on arrival but she had some fossilised errors which we worked on together. We also went to see a live concert of women singer-songwriters and then had a delicious Lebanese meal in a local restaurant. D. explored the city of Bristol and enjoyed the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery, St Nicholas Market and the Clifton Suspension Bristol in Clifton Village. We studied word order in English sentences; improved her pronunciation, especially word and sentence stress; she collected her own vocabulary and wrote a delightful story, called 'The Unexpected Crayfish' using all of her words. I suggested a few tweaks, such as replacing her use of the verb 'take' with 'get' to make her sound much more 'English', except with 'TAKE a photo', of course! We worked hard but we had some fun too, as you can see.😊
