Ever wonder why we spend so much time "just playing" at my setting? 🧸🎨
As a childminder, the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is my secret ingredient! It’s not just about keeping little ones busy; it’s a framework that ensures your child is hitting those vital developmental milestones while having a total blast.
From building fine motor skills with playdough to learning social cues during a tea party, every activity is designed to support the 7 areas of learning. It’s about building a solid foundation so that when they eventually head off to "big school," they are confident, curious, and ready to fly! 🚀

This week was all about sensory play! We spent a lot of time exploring "dinosaur swamps" (okay, it was green spaghetti using blended nero kale and wholemeal flour 😆), and the giggles were endless. 🦖
Obviously activities like this aren't just fun—they help our little ones develop fine motor skills, curiosity, and descriptive language. 😁

Pasta shapes + glue = fun😁 🎨 This week we’ve been working on our fine motor skills and exploring different textures!
I love the fact that play is honestly the most important work a child can do. Seeing their little faces light up when they master a new skill is such a magic moment.

Who knew such simple things as paper, card and crayons could turn into a full-on art project?
This week, we’ve been working on our fine motor skills and imaginative play. Watching the children collaborate to build their masterpieces was the highlight of my week!
I honestly believe the best learning happens when hands are messy and imaginations are running wild.

Is it even a day at childminding if there isn't at least one puddle involved? 💦
I’m a firm believer that there’s no such thing as "bad weather," just the wrong gear! I get asked a lot why I’m so obsessed with everyone having a good pair of wellies waiting by the door, and honestly, it’s about so much more than just dry socks.
When the boots go on, the "yes" starts.
✅ Yes to jumping in that massive puddle.
✅ Yes to squelching through the mud to find worms.
✅ Yes to exploring the garden even when it’s drizzling.
Wellies represent freedom for these little ones. It means they don't have to worry about "spoiling" their nice shoes, and I don't have to worry about damp feet making them grumpy later! Plus, watching a toddler try to march in oversized boots is basically the highlight of my morning. 😂
So, if your little one comes home with a bit of mud on their trousers today... just know they’ve had the best time ever.
P.S. If you're looking for new ones, the brighter the better—it makes it much easier to spot them in the bushes! 🌈✨

📐 From Finger Painting to Further Maths! 🧮
I often get asked why I’m so passionate about "maths talk" with toddlers. People think, "They're only three, surely they just need to learn to count to ten?"
But here’s the secret: the journey to Further Mathematics doesn't start in a high school textbook—it starts right here on the playroom floor!
Why it matters:
Logical Reasoning: When we sort buttons by shape or size, we’re teaching the early logic used in set theory.
Spatial Awareness: Building a stable wooden block tower is a child’s first introduction to structural engineering and 3D geometry.
Pattern Recognition: Identifying patterns in a song or a drawing is the "DNA" of algebra.
Bridging the Gap
Further Mathematics isn't just about "harder" sums; it’s about abstract thinking and problem-solving. By encouraging our little ones to ask "What if?" and "How does this fit?", we are building the resilient brains needed for complex equations down the road.
Whether they grow up to be artists, chefs, or theoretical physicists, a strong mathematical foundation gives them the tools to understand how the world truly works.
Today’s play is tomorrow’s progress! ✨

Hey everyone! 👋⚽️
I wanted to share a little bit about what we’ve been up to in the garden lately. We’ve had the footballs out pretty much every day, and honestly, it’s about so much more than just burning off some energy (though it definitely helps with nap time! 😴).
It’s amazing to watch the little ones develop without them even realizing they’re "exercising." Here’s why I’m such a big fan of football for their physical development:
Balance & Coordination: Trying to kick a moving ball while staying on one’s feet is actually a massive challenge for a toddler! It’s brilliant for their core strength.
Fine-Tuning Motor Skills: Shifting their weight and learning to use different parts of their feet helps so much with their overall agility.
Space Awareness: Learning not to bump into their friends while chasing the ball is a skill in itself!
Cardio Fun: It gets those little hearts pumping and builds up their stamina, all while they're just having a giggle.
The best part is seeing their faces light up when they finally make contact with the ball or score a "goal" between two jumpers. It’s pure confidence-building in action. 🌟

The kids and I have been having so much fun in the garden this past summer, and our Fuchsia plant finally came into full bloom!
The little ones have been calling them "fairy lanterns" and "dancing ballerinas" because of the way the petals hang down. It’s been such a lovely way to get them interested in nature—we’ve been practicing being very gentle while we checked on the buds every morning to see which ones have popped open.
I think we might have some budding gardeners on our hands! 🌿✨ Can't wait for next year 😁
