Pocket inventory from today:

​6 conkers (three genuinely shiny 'undefeated' champions)

​1 stick classified as a emergency wizard staff

​Roughly 10g of local park mud per child

​Conker season has officially commenced. We spent half our morning standing under the big horse chestnut doing the heavy-pocket waddle all the way back. Zero actual string-and-skewer crafting happened because attention spans maxed out at cracking the spikey bit with a rock.

Look what the little ones and I harvested today! 🍅✨

We’ve been watering, talking to, and checking on these tomato plants every single day for weeks now, and the kids were so excited to finally pick the first ripe ones.

There is honestly nothing quite like the pride on a child's face when they bite into a vegetable they grew completely from scratch (even if it does involve a little bit of dirt up the nose!).

We're going to chop these up for fajitas!!!

Look what the little ones and I harvested today! 🍅✨

​We’ve been watering, talking to, and checking on these tomato plants every single day for weeks now, and the kids were so excited to finally pick the first ripe ones.

There is honestly nothing quite like the pride on a child's face when they bite into a vegetable they grew completely from scratch (even if it does involve a little bit of dirt up the nose!).

​We're going to chop these up for fajitas!!!

We’ve officially got our very own little vineyard going in the garden! 🍇

The kids have been absolutely fascinated watching our grape vine this year. Every single day during outdoor play, someone is out there checking on the tiny bunches, counting them, and asking if they’re ready to eat yet (spoiler: not quite!).

It’s been such a fun, hands-on way to talk about how things grow, waiting patiently, and where our food actually comes from—even if we do have to guard them from the local birds!

Fingers crossed we get a sweet harvest for snack time in a few weeks. ☀️🌱

We took a little stroll down the lane today with our baskets (and very sticky fingers) to go blackberry picking. The little ones were so focused on finding the biggest, juiciest ones.

We’ve washed them all off and the kids are excited to have them for snack times.

Quick real-talk moment from the playroom.

I obviously deal with a lot of nappies every single day as a childminder. My daughter used reusable nappies when she was a baby and honestly, I’m so here for it! The environmental benefits of reusable nappies are just out of this world.

I know the thought of reusable nappies can feel a bit overwhelming (the extra washing alone can give anyone pause 😅), but from a childcare side of things, they are super easy to use once you get into the swing of it. The modern ones with the pop-buttons are as quick to put on as a disposable, and the kids love the bright patterns!

If you’ve been thinking about trying them out—or if you already use them at home and were worried about sending them in—please don't hesitate! I'm completely happy to use them here. Just pop a wet bag in their backpack alongside the nappies, and I'll send the used ones home ready for your wash routine.

No pressure at all if disposables are your thing, but I just wanted to let you all know that the door is wide open if you want to make the swap

Hey everyone! 👋

I usually pull out a few Spanish picture books during story time, and watching the little ones' faces light up is honestly the highlight of my week.

Even though most of our gang doesn't speak Spanish, they were totally captivated by the bright illustrations and loved trying to copy the new sounds. We spent ages giggling over how to say 'el perro' and 'la mariposa'—there's something so lovely about seeing how naturally kids pick up rhythms and sounds in a new language. They don't worry about getting it wrong; they just dive straight in!

Exposing children to different languages early on is such a gentle way to build their curiosity about the wider world (plus, it's brilliant for their brain development).
