It’s National Picnic Week and what a perfect excuse to take your lunch outside.
In all the excitement, children may want to explore but it’s important to encourage them to sit down when eating to reduce the risk of choking.
Plus, don’t forget choking is silent, so be sure to watch them whilst they’re eating so you can react quickly if they get into trouble.
What’s your favourite picnic snack for your children? Let us know in the comments.

This week in pre school...😀
As our provocation is ‘summer holidays and sports’ we have been getting busy practicing for our sports day! Sports day is Thursday 25th of June, so we have been having sports day practices every day this week and will be continuing to them every day next week to offer the children the chance to practice the different events we will be doing on the day!
Donna our sports lead, has made half the classroom our sports area and has been helping the children practice! We have been practicing hurdles, relay, throwing bean bags and the hula hoop over our head and round our body event! The children have really enjoyed this and have been doing so well, listening to Donna’s instructions and cheering each other on during the practices! Well done to all the children! We will carry this on next week too, so the children feel ready for the big day! 😊
Elsewhere in the classroom this week…
We had dance parties with the silk scarves! The children chose their favourite music on Alexa and danced round the room with the scarves waving them in the air, throwing and catching them, and even wearing them on their faces as ghosts!
We had a vegetable painting activity, play dough and play dough tools and we built with the mobillo construction pieces!
Outside in the garden this week…
We made a new construction area in the garden this week under the tree! We filled the area with sand and added diggers and trucks, wooden planks and the drainpipes. The children could use the sand as cement and then fill the trucks with sand and then ride them on the planks and down the pipes! The children loved this area and spent lots of time racing the trucks and diggers and digging in the sand!
Elsewhere in the garden this week, we used the chalks on the chalk board in the garden and we had water in the water tray with the solar powered water fountains! The children enjoyed watching the fountains spray the water up!
Finally, for extra snack this week the children enjoyed yogurts! Next week our extra snack is breadsticks with soft cheese for dipping alongside a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend! From the Christchurch pre school team ☀️

First week back at pre school...
The children came back well and full of excitement for the final term!
We have been enjoying our new core story for June, which is; ‘a ticket around the world.’ The children have been enjoying this story as it promotes lots of discussions about different countries around the world and places the children have visited for holidays and how they have got there such as; by aeroplane, boat or train etc!
As our provocation for June is ‘summer holidays and sports.’ We made our role play area in to a travel agency! We added holiday brochures, a till with play money, a telephone, table and chairs and our role play boards so the children could act out visiting the travel shop and booking holidays!
Elsewhere in the classroom this week…
We enjoyed listening to stories on the CD player for group story times.
We enjoyed our fuzzy felt world map with pictures of animals and landmarks that the children could stick on the map and discuss where they think the animals would go on the map, whether they live in hot countries or cold countries etc!
And we enjoyed constructing with mobillo construction pieces! Making cars, houses or just connecting pieces to make different shapes!
Outside this week, in the garden..
We enjoyed racing around the large cars, trucks and diggers!
We rode the bikes and scooters and had races with each other!
Finally for extra snack this week we enjoyed cheese and crackers! Next week we will be enjoying yogurts alongside a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend! From the Christchurch pre school team ☀️
