Aikido offers much more than a physical skill to the practitioner; Students develop their technique through ‘partner practice’ and this non-competitive, harmonious form of training is key to understanding it’s benefits, both mental (stress release, spiritual enlightenment) and physical (fitness, self-defence) - It’s also what makes Aikido training so enjoyable. As a modern “Budo” (literally, ‘martial way’), Aikido has a strong ethical basis grounded in the founder’s message of harmony and peace. Although the idea of a martial discipline striving for peace and harmony may seem paradoxical, it is the most basic tenet of the art. Aikido offers a counter-balance to our stressful modern lives through the enjoyable and mentally stimulating practice of this refined martial art.
