Poppies On The Green is a community project in Shirehampton & is decorated in poppies each November. Messages can be left for us on 0117 9829963.

Our place of contact is Poppies On The Green, SCAF (Shirehampton Community Forum), Public Hall, 32 Station Road, Shirehampton, Bristol, BS11 9TX. How did Poppies On The Green begin? It was September 2018 and no local commemoration was apparent to mark the 100th Anniversary of the end of WWI locally to compliment the local war memorial at the top of Park Hill and the annual Armistice service. Take up the challenge of the Easter Character Hunt this Thursday 2nd April at the High Street Market from 9am until 2pm at Shirehampton Methodist Church & Shire Hub, BS11 0DY. (Please note chocolate is subject to availability) See below for more details.

Easter Character Hunt Challenge!!

Why should the little ones & young children have all the chocolate?!

No matter what your age join in our Easter Character Hunt and find as many as you can throughout our High Street Market. If you correctly find & name all of them you can win an Easter Egg. We have 5 of these to give away.

If you don't find all of them then you'll still get an Easter Character Chocolate to take away with you. It's just a bit of fun for the day & who doesn't like chocolate.

Please note Easter chocolate is subject to availability & once it's gone it's gone.

Pick up your entry sheet with clues from the Market Kitchen & then find as many as you can and hand it back into the Market Kitchen to be checked against the answer sheet and swap it for chocolate. (Remember chocolate is subject to availability.)

Happy Easter everyone! (photo depicts just a small sample of chocolate we have.)

VOLUNTEERS WANTED "The Poppies On The Green" display is being taken down tomorrow Monday 17th November. We need volunteers to help take it down and pack away. Meet at 10am on The Green, Shirehampton.

(Due to illness Kathryn is unable to help take the display down and I don't want Ash being on her own dismantling this so volunteers are urgently needed.)

Please help spread the word. Many thanks

Today Ash & I began to put up the Poppies On The Green display. Thank you to Paul McMillan & Nick who took much of the displays up to The Green this morning then had to whizz off to appointments and for previous help on Monday from Paul, as well as Nicky, Tracy & Pete.

For about 90 minutes we began putting the displays together. Thank you to Kim Tudor who was on her way & put out an urgent appeal on Social Media for volunteers this morning on our behalf (we also did this with reminders as well as posters & leaflets in shops & local events etc previously) Jan & Mary who came across us whilst out & about.

Kim, Jan & Mary, you were our saviours today, so glad you joined us from 11.30 onwards, as we couldn't have finished the display without you. Thank you to the Rose Cafe who made sure we had teas & coffees to get us through. Greatly appreciated. 😊 And to Sally Ann Knowlson & her husband Ian who made our War Horse silhouette. You can't miss it. We all finished the display just after 2pm before the rain really began. We hope the weather will be kinder over the next few days.

This is a Poppies Display for everyone, to the fallen, to the ones who returned home from the two world wars, to other conflicts that followed up to present day, to the peace keeping forces, to those who kept the home fires burning. We can only hope current conflicts & wars come to peaceful conclusion in time & those displaced are reunited with loved ones. We need to learn from the past and not repeat history in a different guise in our present. We can only hope for a better future.
