"I adore playing the double bass. The best way I can describe it is, it’s me."

16 year-old Sebastian first joined our Connect programme in Sheffield in 2020, where he started to play the double bass.

Through one-to-one lessons and regular Get Togethers with Sheffield Music Hub, Sebastian's confidence and passion for his instrument grew. Last year, Sebastian won the Creative Arts Individual Award at the Sheffield Youth Awards for his commitment and dedication to Sheffield Music Service, and he's now been awarded a fully funded scholarship to Sheffield Music Academy 👏

We wish Sebastian the best of luck in the future and can't wait to see where his love for music takes him!

On Tuesday we had a fantastic (and hot!) day with our Discover training facilitators 🌞

Young Sounds UK's Discover programme helps teachers spot the musical spark in their students, nurturing musical journeys from the very start.

Our facilitators deliver this training for FREE to schools, music hubs, universities and conservatoires, thanks to generous funding from Arts Council England 🙏

Bookings are now live for September training sessions - visit youngsounds.org.uk/discover to book your session and help us unlock musical potential in every classroom! 🙌

Another inspiring Piano Masterclass with our Patron Kathryn Stott took place earlier this month, this time at the National Opera Studio in London! 🎹

Young pianists on the Thrive programme had an engaging day filled with fun activities, including improvising to a film and a piano quiz! They also took part in inspiring 1:1 masterclasses with Kathryn.

Thank you so much to Kathryn, Thrive Alum Alex McChrystal, the staff at The National Opera Studio, Young Sounds UK staff and volunteers, and of course all the young musicians and parents/carers that made this such a special day 👏
